A Freelance Software Developer Student is a student who works independently on software development projects while pursuing their studies. They typically take on short-term or contract-based work to build real-world experience, improve their coding skills, and earn income. These students often use platforms like Upwork or Fiverr to find clients, and they may work on tasks like building websites, creating apps, or fixing bugs. Balancing freelance work with academic responsibilities helps them develop time management and professional skills.

Job description

We're looking for a talented and driven Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to play a foundational role in building a next-generation Financial SaaS (FinSaaS) platform from the ground up. This is a true greenfield opportunity, where you'll help design and implement scalable test automation frameworks, shape quality engineering practices, and influence how testing is embedded across the entire development lifecycle from day one.

In this role, you'll be defining how quality is engineered within a modern, cloud-based platform used by investors and financial stakeholders. You'll partner closely with our core engineering team to establish testing strategies, ensure system reliability, and enable high-velocity, confident releases.

Your work will have a direct and visible impact on product quality, user trust, and the company's ability to scale. If you're excited by the chance to build something new, drive a quality-first culture, and leave a lasting imprint on both the product and engineering organization, this role offers a unique opportunity to do just that.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain automated test frameworks using C# within a .NET ecosystem
  • Develop automated tests for web applications (Angular), APIs, and backend services
  • Partner closely with developers, product managers, and designers (Figma) to define acceptance criteria and test strategies
  • Integrate test automation into Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines
  • Drive shift-left testing by embedding quality early in the development lifecycle
  • Create and execute functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end test suites
  • Validate data integrity and business logic using SQL and database testing techniques
  • Identify, triage, and track defects; collaborate with engineering teams on resolution
  • Contribute to code reviews with a focus on testability and quality
  • Establish and maintain test data management and test environments
  • Continuously improve test coverage, execution time, and reliability

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 4+ years of experience in test automation or SDET roles
  • Strong programming skills in C# and .NET
  • Experience with modern test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, Cypress with C# bindings)
  • Hands-on experience testing Angular-based web applications
  • Experience with API testing (REST, JSON)
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL and database validation
  • Experience implementing tests in Azure DevOps pipelines
  • Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum development methodologies
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills

What You'll Help Build

  • A scalable automation framework from the ground up
  • A quality-first engineering culture in a greenfield environment
  • Reliable, high-performing software used by investors and financial stakeholders
  • Efficient pipelines that enable fast, confident releases

Benefits include

  • 100% Employer Paid Medical for Employee AND Whole Family (includes the Mayo Clinic)
  • 401k/Roth Plan with 4% Match and Immediate Vesting
  • Dental Insurance
  • Vision Insurance
  • Company Paid Life Insurance
  • Company Paid Short-and-Long-Term Disability Insurance
  • Fully Paid LifeTime Gym Membership (if at least 8 visit days/month)
  • Student Loan Repayment Assistance and Education Assistance
  • Catered Friday Lunches
  • Stocked Snack Kitchens
  • Fun in-Office Work Environment
  • Opportunity to Work at a Fast-Growing Company
