What is freelance ship design?

Freelance ship design involves independent professionals who create plans and specifications for ships or marine vessels on a contract basis, rather than working for a single employer. These designers may work with shipyards, private clients, or engineering firms to develop new vessels or modify existing ones. Their work typically includes conceptualizing layouts, ensuring compliance with maritime regulations, and integrating engineering systems. Freelance ship designers often use specialized software for 3D modeling and collaborate with naval architects and marine engineers throughout the design process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance ship designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Ship Designer, you need strong skills in naval architecture, marine engineering principles, and a relevant degree or certification in ship design or a related field. Proficiency in CAD software (such as AutoCAD or Rhino), 3D modeling tools, and knowledge of maritime regulations are typically required. Strong communication, creativity, and project management skills help you effectively collaborate with clients and coordinate complex design projects. These abilities ensure you can deliver innovative, compliant, and functional ship designs that meet client needs and industry standards.

What are some common challenges freelance ship designers face when working with clients remotely?

Freelance ship designers often encounter challenges such as aligning design expectations across different time zones, ensuring clear communication regarding technical specifications, and managing project revisions efficiently. Since ship design projects typically involve multidisciplinary collaboration, effective use of digital project management tools and regular virtual meetings are essential to keep all stakeholders on the same page. Building strong relationships with naval architects, engineers, and shipyards remotely requires proactive communication and detailed documentation to minimize misunderstandings and ensure project success.

Job description

About Polymarket
Polymarket is the world's largest prediction market platform. We enable individuals to express views on real-world events by trading on outcomes across politics, economics, sports, culture, and current affairs. Built as a peer-to-peer marketplace with no centralized "house," Polymarket aggregates diverse opinions into transparent, market-based probabilities that reflect collective expectations about the future.
We're growing fast - both in terms of volume ($21B traded in 2025) and adoption as an alternative news source. Our ambition is to become a ubiquitous beacon of truth in global media and we need your help adding fuel to the fire.
About the Role
The Design team at Polymarket is small, fast, and expected to punch well above its weight. We ship across paid social, lifecycle, partnerships, and brand with a lean roster of designers and motion talent, supplemented by freelancers and agency partners. The team moves at the speed of news cycles, which means the operational layer underneath creative production either works perfectly or everything grinds to a halt.
This is the role that makes the machine run. As Creative Ops Lead, you own the full creative pipeline: intake, briefing, prioritization, production, review, and delivery. You build and maintain the systems that let a small team ship at high volume without dropping quality or missing deadlines - and you close the loop between ad performance data and creative production so winning concepts get iterated and scaled in days, not weeks.
What You'll Do
  • Own the end-to-end creative pipeline across paid social, lifecycle, partnerships, and brand, running intake, briefing, prioritization, production, review, and delivery as one connected system
  • Build and maintain the operating infrastructure: briefs, trackers, asset libraries, naming conventions, and approval workflows that let the team ship at high volume without reinventing the wheel each campaign
  • Allocate designers, motion talent, and freelancers against the campaign calendar, matching capacity to demand and killing bottlenecks before they hit deadlines
  • Pull live ad performance data and route winning signals back into active briefs, ensuring top-performing concepts are iterated and scaled within days
  • Manage external production partners - staffing agencies, freelancers, and vendors - including sourcing, negotiating, onboarding, and holding quality bars throughout
  • Run compliance ops for league and partner creative, managing licensing guidelines, approval routing, and turnaround SLAs with external rights holders
  • Track and report on creative throughput, cycle times, and hit rates weekly, keeping the ops layer measurable and continuously improving

What We're Looking For
  • Proven end-to-end creative ops ownership at a growth company - you have built and run the full pipeline, not just managed parts of it
  • Direct experience building and managing creative workflows for paid social at scale, including briefing, production, and delivery across multiple concurrent campaigns
  • Track record sourcing, negotiating with, and managing freelance and agency partners, including holding quality bars under real deadline pressure
  • Clear experience closing the loop between ad performance data and creative production, with a process that moves from data signal to updated brief to live asset in days
  • Comfort managing compliance workflows with external rights holders, including approval routing and SLA tracking
  • Strong cross-functional instincts - you communicate with PMs and channel leads in terms of business impact and keep work moving without waiting to be unblocked
  • (Plus) Experience setting up DAMs and standing up creative automation tooling, including templated production, dynamic creative workflows, or AI-assisted generation
  • (Plus) Background in crypto, fintech, or a high-velocity consumer app where the pace of production is non-negotiable

Benefits
  • Competitive salary & equity
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Full Health, Vision, & Dental coverage
  • 401k match
  • Hardware setup: new MacBook Pro, big display, & accessories
