Job description

Description
Under general supervision, the Electronics Hardware Design Engineer designs, develops, and maintains embedded hardware for commercial electronic products. This role is responsible for board-level design from concept through production, with a focus on low-voltage embedded systems, product reliability, and cost optimization. The engineer works closely with firmware, test, and manufacturing teams to ensure robust product performance and efficient production, while supporting regulatory compliance requirements. This role is expected to operate with a high degree of ownership and independence while benefiting from technical guidance and mentorship.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5-10 years of experience in electronics hardware design.
  • Experience designing low-voltage embedded systems.
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB design using Altium Designer (or similar).
  • Experience designing 2-layer to 6-layer PCBs.
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit design.
  • Experience with power supply design and regulation.
  • Familiarity with embedded communication interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet).
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, power supplies, etc.).
  • Proven ability to bring up and debug new hardware designs independently.
  • Experience supporting products through manufacturing and production environments.
  • Experience with commercial security, burglary, or fire alarm systems.
  • Familiarity with UL requirements, particularly for commercial burg and fire products.
  • Experience working with pre-certified wireless modules (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, cellular).
  • Experience collaborating with RF/wireless engineering teams (no deep RF design required).
  • Familiarity with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for test (DFT).
  • Experience using version control and issue tracking tools (e.g., SVN, Jira, or similar).

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Designs, develops, and maintains embedded hardware systems from concept through production.
  2. Creates schematics, performs component selection, and supports PCB layout.
  3. Applies best practices for power design, grounding, and signal integrity in low-voltage systems.
  4. Supports integration of wireless subsystems by maintaining and updating schematics based on reference designs.
  5. Participates in design reviews and contributes to overall system architecture decisions.
  6. Ensures designs meet cost, reliability, and manufacturability targets, with a strong focus on cost optimization.
  7. Performs board bring-up, validation, and debugging of new designs.
  8. Develops and executes design verification plans.
  9. Troubleshoots analog and digital circuits at the board and system level.
  10. Supports root cause analysis of design, production, and field issues.
  11. Works closely with firmware engineers to resolve hardware/software integration issues.
  12. Supports new product introduction (NPI) and transition to in-house production.
  13. Collaborates with internal manufacturing teams to ensure efficient production and high yield.
  14. Incorporates design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for test (DFT) principles.
  15. Assists in resolving production issues and improving product quality and reliability.
  16. Partners with test engineering as needed to support production readiness (minimal direct test system development).
  17. Supports product compliance efforts, including UL requirements for commercial burg and fire systems.
  18. Ensures designs meet internal quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  19. Contributes to documentation including schematics, BOMs, and design notes.
