Job description

Associate Full Stack Product Engineer
Help Us Build the Relational Operating System for Churches and Ministries
Most churches serve hundreds, if not thousands, of people.
Yet, very few people in these communities feel truly known.
People drift away from faith communities every day not because they reject belief - but because nobody notices they disappeared.
At Called, we're building the relational operating system for churches and ministries.
Our platform helps ministry leaders know their people, build stronger community, and foster deeper discipleship throughout the week - not just on Sundays.
We're a small, high-trust team building meaningful software with modern tools, AI-assisted workflows, and a strong sense of mission. We move fast, care deeply about product quality, and believe technology should strengthen human relationships, not replace them.
If you want to work on another ad platform or optimize clicks, this probably isn't for you.
If you want to help rebuild community in a disconnected world, keep reading.
About the Role
We are looking for an Associate Full Stack Product Engineer with a frontend focus to help build and maintain thoughtful, reliable, and easy-to-use product experiences across the Called platform.
This role will spend much of its time building user-facing features using React, React Query, TypeScript, and modern frontend best practices while also contributing to backend APIs, services, and data models using Python, Django, and PostgreSQL.
This is an ideal role for someone who has already built and shipped software in a professional, internship, freelance, startup, or meaningful project environment and is ready to grow into greater ownership and responsibility.
You'll help shape real product decisions, ship features used by ministries across the country, and grow quickly as both an engineer and product thinker.
What You'll Do
  • Build and maintain frontend features using React, React Query, CSS Modules, and modern frontend best practices.
  • Create responsive, accessible, and user-friendly interfaces.
  • Work with backend APIs to fetch, update, and manage application data.
  • Help QA new and existing product features by testing user workflows, identifying bugs, documenting issues clearly, and verifying fixes before release.
  • Contribute to backend services and APIs using Python, Django, and related tools.
  • Debug and troubleshoot issues across the frontend and backend.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and team knowledge-sharing.
  • Grow toward owning features from planning through implementation and release.

Our Engineering Philosophy
We believe modern engineers should be dramatically amplified by AI.
Our team actively uses AI-assisted workflows for development, debugging, prototyping, testing, documentation, and rapid product iteration.
We care far more about builders who can move fast, learn quickly, and solve problems than developers obsessed with rigid specialization.
We value:
  • Ownership over bureaucracy
  • Shipping over perfectionism
  • Curiosity over ego
  • Product thinking over ticket completion
  • Mission and craftsmanship equally

What We're Looking For
  • 1-3 years of software development experience, including professional experience, internships, freelance work, experience, or a strong portfolio of relevant projects.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows to support coding, debugging, documentation, automation, or developer productivity.
  • Experience building web applications with React.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and responsive design.
  • Experience working with APIs and understanding how frontend applications communicate with backend systems.
  • Basic backend development experience, ideally with Python, Django, REST APIs, or similar frameworks.
  • Experience using Git and working in a collaborative development environment.
  • A willingness to learn, ask questions, receive feedback, and grow as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A passion for building technology that supports a mission-driven organization.

People Who Thrive Here
  • Builders who like ownership over bureaucracy
  • Engineers who care deeply about user experience
  • Developers excited by AI
  • Curious learners who move fast and adapt quickly
  • Mission-driven people who still love great product craft
  • Team players with low ego and high standards

Bonus Skills (Nice to Have)
  • Familiarity with Docker, AWS, CI/CD pipelines, or automated testing.
  • Experience with authentication, permissions, or role-based access control.
  • Interest in performance, accessibility, and frontend polish.

What You'll Love About Us
  • 100% remote position
  • Small team with real ownership and influence
  • Fast decision-making and minimal bureaucracy
  • AI-forward engineering culture
  • Strong work/life boundaries
  • Generous PTO and 12 paid holidays
  • Company-wide shutdown between Christmas and New Year's
  • Health benefits
  • Opportunity for rapid growth and mentorship
  • Mission-driven work with real-world impact
