Job description

Job Title: Prepress Operator Location: South Plainfield, NJ Type: Direct Hire Compensation: $70,000 annually Contractor Work Model: Onsite Hours: Evening shift (typically 3:00 PMโ€“11:30 PM, includes 30-minute unpaid)

About the role:

Join a fast-paced commercial print and direct mail operation supporting national clients. This position is ideal for a hands-on prepress professional who can manage multiple files/jobs at once, troubleshoot production issues, and collaborate closely with production and other internal teams to ensure accurate, on-time output.

Key responsibilities:

  • Prepare customer files for production and ensure print-ready accuracy
  • Create, output, and distribute digital color proofs for client approval
  • Perform minor type/text edits as requested
  • Execute layouts, imposition, and file set-up for press
  • Run and support server-based prepress workflows (RIP/trap) per internal SOPs
  • Output proofs, impose jobs, and image plates
  • Partner with internal teams to meet tight turnaround and quality standards
  • Additional duties as assigned

Required experience & qualifications:

  • 5+ years of recent commercial print prepress experience (must be current/recentโ€”not freelance or design-only backgrounds)
  • Strong proficiency with layouts and imposition
  • Experience with at least one of the following prepress/workflow systems (required):
    • Xitron Sierra / Sierra
    • Kodak Prinergy
    • EFI Apogee
    • Fuji XMF
  • Working knowledge of both Mac and Windows desktop publishing environments
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under deadlines

Preferred:

  • Variable data / VDP exposure; XMPie experience is a plus (not required)
