Job description
ASL Medical InPerson Interpreter
Language Required: American Sign Language
- Provide effective onsite interpreting service for consumers.
- Always exhibit professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for shifts.
- Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and changing technologies.
- Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context (i.e., hospitals, courts, schools, etc.).
- Respect for and understanding of our Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients, culture, dialect and beliefs and preferences as it relates to medical procedures.
- Strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
- National certification at or above NAD level 4, RID CSC, CI/CT, CDI, NIC or BEI Advanced.
- Extensive knowledge of the NAD/RID Code of Professional Conduct and Deaf Culture ethics and standards of practice.
- Familiarity with the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as other state and federal laws applied to medical interpreting.
- HIPAA Training for Business Associates certificate (completed within the last year)
- State-licensed where applicable.
- ASL/English fluency, and bilingual/bicultural competency.
- Degree or certifications in ASL interpreting practices.
- Minimum 2 years of in-person ASL interpreting experience within a medical setting preferred.
- Proven national medical interpreter certification (CCHI or NBCMI), or medical interpreter training diploma (i.e.: Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, any 40-hour nationally accredited medical interpreter training course), preferred but not required.
