POSITION TITLE: Specialist, Math Education
DEPARTMENT/SERVICE AREA: School Improvement
REPORTS TO: School Improvement Program Administrator
FLSA STATUS/ CLASSIFICATION: Classified
SALARY PLACEMENT: Licensed, 207 day contract
JOB GOAL: Provide quality professional development, coaching and consultant services to assist Lane County School districts improve student achievement in the area of mathematics.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Develop, coordinate and promote professional development programs, consultant services and direct student services targeting improvement of math instruction and student achievement in alignment with district goals.
  2. Provide training and technical assistance in curriculum, instruction and assessment in mathematics.
  3. Provide assistance to districts in establishing needs assessment, program development, program evaluation, inservice training, and sustaining systems related to achieving Consolidated Improvement Plan and Achievement Compact goals in the area of math.
  4. Research current trends and research in mathematics curriculum and instruction.
  5. Provide assistance in review or adoption of mathematics curriculum, materials, and resources support review of math related materials and resources.
  6. Manage, administer budgets and activities related to assigned grants including reporting requirements.
  7. Assist in development of grant opportunities or applications as assigned.
  8. Act as liaison with appropriate school district, county and state organizations.
  9. Utilize appropriate software as established for agency use as well as other computer software programs as appropriate to the assignment.
  10. Submit program reports as required.
  11. Attend staff, planning, and committee meetings as assigned.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Valid Oregon teaching license with endorsement in Mathematics required.
  2. Minimum of five years successful teaching experience in mathematics.
  3. Demonstrated leadership in the area of math instruction and program development required.
  4. Minimum two years successful experience developing and delivering staff development and training to adult learners or demonstrated leadership in the area of math instruction and program development.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of data and assessment systems including the ability to evaluate for standards alignment, data team usage and formative assessment purposes.
  6. Demonstrated ability to make formal presentations and facilitate diverse groups, solicit input and to synthesize and summarize information.
  7. Demonstrated ability to use technology as a tool in daily work and as an educational resource.
  8. Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing)
  9. Valid Oregon Driver's License.
  10. Ability to meet the physical and mental requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

WORK EXPECTATIONS:
  1. Effectively engage with individuals in a culturally appropriate and responsive manner.
  2. The employee will demonstrate professionalism and appropriate judgement in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean and appropriate professional manner for the assignment and work setting.
  3. Utilize appropriate equipment and software as established for agency use as well as other equipment and software appropriate to the assignment.
  4. Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  5. Confer regularly with immediate supervisor.
  6. Follow all District work procedures and reasonable requests by proper authority.
  7. Perform program responsibilities in accordance with statutes, administrative rules, policies, and collective bargaining agreements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The position requires minimal physical exertion. The specialist is normally standing, walking or sitting as required. Periodically the specialist may be required to do some light lifting of materials/supplies up to 20 lbs when transitioning from site to site.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Generally, the specialist works in an indoor work environment performing clean, non-hazardous work. This is an itinerant position requiring travel between multiple work sites. The specialist may encounter inclement weather during site visits, field trips or community activities.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of Board policy and the evaluation program adopted for the position.
