Job description

The Editorial team provides our customers with premium, differentiated visuals across news, sports, and entertainment that cover real people, events, actions, and facts. We also grow and maintain one of the world’s most extensive archives of socially significant, historical photos, footage, and prints.

Getty Images is hiring a Senior Editor to join the Sport Editorial team in New York.

Who You Are:

As Senior Sports Editor, you will guide our Sport editing team in delivering exceptional results across live sporting events and client projects. Your role will be a blend of remote, in office and onsite work, including event support, team leadership during group edits, and ensuring timely global content distribution. Working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, you will balance editorial excellence with customer satisfaction.

You’ll be integral to our global strategy, leading editing teams supporting events on an international scale. You should bring a deep understanding of both domestic and international sports, combined with experience in efficiently editing large volumes of content while meeting client expectations. Expertise in digital photography, photo editing, metadata management, and technical troubleshooting across PC and MAC platforms will be key to success in this role.

Your Next Challenge: Content Editing and Distribution:
  • Edit content remotely, in-office, and onsite at sporting events.
  • Deliver content for global distribution, utilizing advanced skills in JPEG and RAW workflows, photo editing software, metadata application, and FTP management.
  • Ensure timely uploads of images to multiple platforms, including websites and client destinations.
  • Collaborate with the Managing Editor to guide the editing team during group edits, ensuring cohesive teamwork and meeting deadlines.
  • Act independently and confidently to ensure coverage quality and efficiency.

Oversee or collaborate with onsite teams (editors, photographers, freelancers), ensuring that workflows align with the event scale and tight deadlines.

Training and Mentorship:
  • Assist in the training and mentor freelance editors in accordance with company standards, covering image transmission, quality, captioning, and delivery.
  • Provide feedback on the editing processes to the managing editor to identify improvements, contributing to the team’s growth and excellence.
Client Relationship Management:
  • Build strong relationships with both internal and external clients, delivering exceptional customer service for editorial and client-driven assignments.
  • Serve as a key liaison during commercial workflows, ensuring client needs are met.
  • Foster a collaborative environment, promoting respect, open communication, and a positive culture where every team member feels valued and supported.
What You'll Need:
  • Strong editorial skills with expertise in RAW workflows, photo editing, and metadata management.
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and client service skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with keen attention to detail and an ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Proven ability to manage time effectively and function in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong leadership abilities and a passion for mentoring and developing talent.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to ensure smooth workflows and resolve technical challenges.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally, often on evenings and weekends (valid passport required).
