Job Summary:
Super Micro Computer, Inc. is a global leader in high-performance server and storage solutions. We are seeking a motivated Hardware Design Engineer to join our engineering team in San Jose.
The successful candidate will participate in the design and development of enterprise server motherboards and GPU platforms, working closely with cross-functional teams throughout the product development lifecycle. Responsibilities include hardware design, system validation, debugging, customer technical support, and production support.
This position also requires domestic and international business travel to support customer issues, contract manufacturers, product validation, engineering collaboration, and new product introduction activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Includes the following essential duties and responsibilities (other duties may also be assigned):
  • Perform board-level and system-level debugging and analyze customer-reported issues and identify root causes.
  • Design and develop enterprise server motherboards and add-on card products, including schematic capture, BOM creation, debugging, and product validation.
  • Review PCB layouts and collaborate with layout engineers to ensure design quality, manufacturability, and compliance with hardware design guidelines.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including product specifications, BOMs, validation reports, test procedures, and debugging guides.
  • Perform design verification testing (DVT), system validation, and qualification testing to ensure products meet engineering specifications and customer requirements.
  • Support customer issue analysis and production troubleshooting to ensure timely resolution and continuous product improvement.
  • Provide technical support to contract manufacturers, production teams, and customers during product development, mass production, and field issue investigations.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering; Master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience in hardware design, PCB design, server platforms, or related electronic product development.
  • Familiarity with PCB layout review and hardware debugging.
  • Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other laboratory test equipment.
  • Familiarity with server interfaces such as PCIe, DDR, USB, Ethernet, I²C/SMBus, SPI, and UART is preferred.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and able to work in a fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required to support customer issues, contract manufacturers, product validation, and engineering activities.

Salary Range
$110,000 - $130,000
The salary offered will depend on several factors, including your location, level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as participation in bonus and equity award programs.
