Job description

FIBER DESIGNER 

Department: Operations

Reports To: Sr. Fiber Engineer

Remote: Yes

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Vero is seeking a self-motivated and analytical Fiber Designer to manage the integrity and documentation of our physical and logical network. In this remote-eligible role, you will design complex fiber optic splicing plans based on customer specifications, translate requirements into detailed engineering designs, and collaborate across departments and with contractors. You will also maintain network data accuracy within our inventory management system, audit contractor close-out packages. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Network Inventory Management: Review construction documents to ensure the physical and logical network is accurately reflected in the inventory management system; conduct regular quality assurance audits on data integrity.
  • Fiber Design & Splicing: Design complex fiber optic splicing plans based on customer specifications; translate requirements into detailed engineering designs for implementation by vendors and contractors.
  • Project Coordination: Utilize network inventory data and construction documentation to collaborate with project managers and construction vendors to execute network designs.
  • Testing & Analysis: Review, interpret, and analyze post-construction and maintenance OTDR test traces at various wavelengths.
  • Vendor Auditing: Audit contractor close-out packages to ensure fiber specifications are met and resolve any technical discrepancies with vendors.
  • Technical Support: Provide remote tier-2 and tier-3 technical support for field crews to troubleshoot real-time testing and splicing issues.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ years of telecommunications experience and knowledge and understanding of  engineering drawings, fiber optic materials, construction methods, and OTDR traces.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher.
  • Highly proficient in the use of computers and applications such as Microsoft office and Google suite. 
  • Some experience  in the use of fiber optic network inventory systems and GIS applications such as Google Earth, AutoCAD, QGIS, or ArcGIS.
  • Strong analytical abilities and professional communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Technical proficiency in AutoCAD, QGIS, ArcGIS.
  • Technically proficient in the use of FastReporter and the analysis of OTDR traces.  
  • Degree in telecommunications or a related technical field.
  • Highly proficient in the use of Excel or Google Sheets.
  • FOA Certification.

JOB DETAILS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This role does not require travel.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • This is a staff position.
  • This is an Exempt position.
  • This is a Full-Time position.
  • This is a Remote position.
  • The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday with occasional weekend availability as needed to fulfill the core duties of the role.
  • This position requires the ability to sit and work at a desk for extended periods of time, using a computer and other office equipment.
  • This position requires the ability to perform fine motor tasks, such as typing or using a mouse, for extended period of time.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Base pay is paid at an annual salary rate. The range for this position is $75,000 to $90,000 depending on experience.
  • Target annual bonus for this role is 10%.
