Job description

Head of Editorial

Location: Remote, FL Miami
Reports to: Head of PR
Companies supported: Zen Media + Optimum7 (sister companies)
Manages: All editorial writers (full-time and freelance) across all programs
Programs overseen: Published Monthly, AI Notices, AI Reputation, and upcoming AI visibility / perception / reputation programs

About Us

Zen Media is the B2B PR and AI visibility agency helping enterprise software, healthcare technology, professional services, manufacturing, and eCommerce brands achieve measurable growth and industry leadership. By combining strategic content, earned media, social amplification, and our Published Monthly AI visibility system, we influence buyers, shorten sales cycles, and drive ROI. Our work has been featured in Forbes, Fast Company, Ad Age, and The Wall Street Journal.

Optimum7 is our sister company - a technology and performance marketing partner powering eCommerce, custom development, and AI platform work (including ZAVI, our AI visibility platform). Content across both brands is routed through a unified PR function to ensure consistent voice, quality, and strategic alignment across overlapping clients and audiences.

About the Role

We're hiring a Head of Editorial to own the editorial engine across Zen Media and Optimum7.

You will oversee all editorial output across Published Monthly, AI Notices, AI Reputation, and future AI-driven programs. You will manage the full writing team, set editorial standards, and act as the final quality gate before anything is published.

This is a senior leadership role defining what "editorial excellence for AI visibility" means - ensuring content is on-brand, compliant, and optimized for both editorial placement and AI citation.

You report to the Head of PR and work across two sister companies, multiple clients, and multiple content systems simultaneously.

What You'll Do

  • Own the full editorial function across Zen Media + Optimum7
  • Run editorial production across all programs (Published Monthly, AI Notices, AI Reputation, new AI programs)
  • Build editorial playbooks for new programs before launch
  • Manage full writing team (writers, contractors, freelancers)
  • Act as final editorial gate before client delivery or publication
  • Own editorial placement strategy and relationships with high-authority publications (DA 60+)
  • Enforce compliance and editorial standards across all content
  • Define and maintain writing standards for SEO, GEO (AI citability), AP Style, structure, and tone
  • Partner with Head of PR and account teams on strategy and execution
  • Train writers on AI-first editorial craft
  • Write key high-impact pieces (bylines, launches, strategic thought leadership)
  • Own editorial performance metrics (quality, speed, citation impact, approval cycles)

What You Bring

  • 7-10+ years editorial experience (Managing Editor / Editorial Director / Head of Content preferred)
  • Proven experience managing editorial teams (writers + freelancers)
  • Strong portfolio of published editorial work (including ghostwriting) at DA 60+ outlets
  • AP Style mastery
  • Experience with B2B industries (software, healthcare tech, manufacturing, services, eCommerce)
  • Strong understanding of SEO and AI citability (GEO / LLM extraction principles)
  • High-level editorial judgment (tone, compliance, accuracy, structure)
  • Ability to run multiple editorial calendars and deadlines at scale
  • Experience improving and scaling writers and editorial systems
  • Calm, structured communication style and strong operational discipline

Preferred Experience

  • Existing relationships with major trade or business editors (Forbes, Fast Company, WSJ, etc.)
  • Experience building editorial teams or style guides from scratch
  • Experience with AI visibility / Answer Share / GEO frameworks
  • Wire services (PR Newswire, Business Wire, GlobeNewswire)
  • Knowledge of structured data / schema / citation mechanics
  • Experience launching editorial programs or content systems

What We Value

  • Excellence and precision
  • Problem-solving mindset
  • Innovation in AI-first editorial thinking
  • Zero-drama collaboration
  • Continuous growth and learning
  • Purpose-driven execution

Why Join Zen Media + Optimum7

  • 100% remote role
  • Competitive senior-level compensation
  • Define editorial standards for AI-era content marketing
  • Direct exposure to ZAVI and Answer Share performance data
  • Lead editorial systems across multiple new program launches
  • Oversight across two companies and multiple industries
  • Clear path toward VP / Chief Content Officer level
  • Culture of excellence, integrity, and innovation
