Job description

Prototype ModelMaker (Part Time/Freelance)
WovenWorks Global is a forward-thinking, design-driven agency where strategy, creativity, and ambition unite to fuel remarkable growth. Joining our team means becoming part of an environment that thrives on curiosity, ownership, and bold ideas, where your initiative and drive will directly shape the future of our agency. If you're passionate about making an impact, building something meaningful, and growing your career with a group that values innovation and collaboration, WovenWorks is the place to launch your next chapter. We believe brands today must weave culture to product, insight to action, and strategy to tangible experiences. That's where you come in.
About the role:
WovenWorks is looking for a skilled, hands-on maker to support our prototyping team in Fairfield, CT. This freelance, part-time role is ideal for someone with experience in industrial design model making, prototype finishing, scenic fabrication, product mockups, or related hands-on craft disciplines. You'll help bring concepts to life through polished comps, appearance models, and functional mockups.
About you:
Are you a hands-on maker who takes pride in bringing ideas to life with precision, craftsmanship, and care? If so, we'd love to meet you. You're someone who enjoys working with your hands as much as your head, transforming rough concepts into polished, presentation-ready prototypes and mockups. You have a strong eye for detail and understand that the quality of a finish, the smoothness of a surface, or the accuracy of an assembly can make all the difference in how an idea is experienced. Whether sanding, painting, assembling, or refining, you approach each step with focus and intention.
You thrive in fast-paced, build-heavy environments where timelines are tight and expectations are high. You're resourceful, adaptable, and able to balance speed with quality, supporting rapid prototyping efforts without compromising craftsmanship. You take ownership of your work, ensuring everything that leaves your bench is clean, organized, and client-ready. Collaboration comes naturally to you. You work closely with designers, engineers, and team leads, contributing to a shared goal while remaining open to feedback and continuously improving your techniques. You bring a low ego, high curiosity mindset-always looking to learn, refine your skills, and elevate the final output.
Above all, you're passionate about making-turning strategy and ideas into tangible experiences that people can see, touch, and engage with.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute hands-on fabrication work, including sanding, trimming, prepping, and finishing 3D printed parts
  • Paint, detail, and refine product mockups and appearance models to presentation-quality standards
  • Assemble high-quality prototypes, comps, and visual models for internal reviews and client presentations
  • Support rapid prototyping builds under tight timelines, ensuring accuracy and craftsmanship
  • Maintain organised workspaces, tools, and materials to support efficient workflow and safety standards
  • Collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and prototyping leads to meet deadlines and uphold quality expectations
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of fabrication processes, techniques, and output quality
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and ownership in delivering polished, client-ready work

Desired experience:
  • Experience with hands-on model making, prototyping, or fabrication within design, innovation, agency, or CPG environments.
  • Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field is a plus
  • Strong experience in product prototype finishing and high-quality mockup creation (including packaging comps)
  • Background in scenic/prop fabrication or retail display fabrication is a plus
  • Demonstrated craftsmanship with excellent attention to detail and a hands-on, maker-oriented mindset

Location:
This role is open to candidates able to come to Fairfield, CT.
WovenWorks Core Values:
Lead and Learn
Every day you show up with confidence in your abilities, but you also have zero ego and are open to learning as you grow your career.
Collaboration
You feel comfortable bouncing ideas around on Teams and meeting weekly (or more) to collaborate with your team members (across departments)
Strategic
You think before you act, plan several steps ahead, and keep the clients' needs and goals at the forefront of all solutions.
Empathetic
You have a passion for what drives human behaviour. You can put yourself in the consumer's shoes and interpret what is driving their needs and desires.
Client Partner
You enjoy becoming a near-expert in each client's category and their consumers. You feel comfortable communicating when you are not sure a client is making the right choice, and you are able to expertly redirect clients when needed.
