Job Overview

Graduate Assistant and Resident Director, Community Scholars Program - Center for Multicultural Equity and Access - Georgetown University

The Graduate Assistant (GA) position will compromise two parts: assisting the leadership of the Community Scholars Program in preparing for the incoming cohort of students for Summer 2024 and serving as the Resident Director during the Summer 2024 program. Prior to the program (June 3 - July 4, 2024), the GA will provide administrative and programming support in the CMEA office. During this time, the GA will prepare travel and programming logistics, as well as prepare to assume the role of supervisor to six Community Advisors (CAs). During the next six weeks (July 5- August 9, 2024), the GA will serve as the Resident Director and will live in the residence hall with the students. The GA will be responsible for the management of the residential aspect of the program. The GA is expected to serve as an scholar practitioner by developing the leadership of students, and encouraging community building and involvement. This position requires a great deal of flexibility, as work hours during the program will include evening, weekend, and overnight shifts. In addition, this position requires a great deal of patience, conflict resolution skills, a deep understanding of diversity and social justice, and the ability to respond quickly to emergency situations.

Additional duties include but are not limited to:

  • Prepare travel and programming logistics,

  • Serve in the role of supervisor to six undergraduate Community Advisors (CAs)

  • Revise Community Advisors training manual and protocol, define expectations and assign duties for CAs, and prepare workshops for CA training week (June 30- July 4, 2024)

  • Serve as the Resident Director and will live in the residence hall with the students.

  • Be responsible for the management of the residential aspect of the program and take part and oversee duty rotation

  • Attend meetings with CSP leadership, deans and program faculty and in any administrative duties assigned by the Assistant Director of Academic Success

Work Interactions

The GA for the Community Scholars Program is considered a CMEA staff member. Therefore, the GA must exhibit professionalism and maturity at all times. The GA is expected to:

  • Move into housing on Georgetown campus on Monday, June 3rd before 4 PM

  • Depart from residence hall on Saturday, August 9, 2024 after 4 pm

  • Spend every night at the residence hall from Sunday, June 30, 2024 - Saturday, August 9, 2024

  • Follow all the CSP rules and regulations expected of program participants related to conduct and behavior

  • Attend all training sessions scheduled by CMEA, the department of Residential Living, and the Division of Student Affairs

  • Attend all CSP and CMEA meetings, programs, and events scheduled throughout the summer

  • Display leadership skills and acts as a role model for CAs and program participants at all times

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Candidates must be enrolled in or have recently graduated from a Master's degree program in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field

  • Preference will be given to candidates with substantial experience in residence life, extensive involvement in multicultural affairs, program planning experience, and a commitment to leadership development
