Raytheon is seeking a highly motivated Digital Hardware Design Engineer to join our hardware engineering team. In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, verification, and validation of airborne radar hardware for defense and aerospace applications. You will work closely with experienced engineers on RTL development, FPGA/ASIC design, simulation, and hardware bring-up for cutting-edge technologies.

This position is ideal for candidates passionate about digital hardware, digital logic design, aerospace systems, radar technologies, and solving complex engineering challenges in multidisciplinary and collaborative teams.

What You Will Do:

  • Design and implement digital hardware blocks using Verilog/SystemVerilog or VHDL
  • Develop RTL for FPGA and/or ASIC-based systems
  • Participate in architecture discussions and technical design reviews
  • Create and execute simulation testbenches for functional verification
  • Debug RTL, simulation, synthesis, and hardware integration issues
  • Collaborate with verification, physical design, firmware, and system engineering teams
  • Support FPGA prototyping, lab bring-up, and silicon validation activities
  • Analyze timing, area, power, and performance tradeoffs
  • Document designs, test plans, and engineering results
  • Learn and apply industry-standard EDA tools and design methodologies

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) major obtained by start date. 
  • Strong understanding of digital logic design fundamentals, including coursework or academic project experience in: Basic circuit fundamentals, digital logic design, and RTL design, FPGA or ASIC development and workflows, VLSI/Microelectronics design and Digital Signal Processing (DSP), Hardware description languages such as Verilog, SystemVerilog, and/or VHDL, Simulation, debugging tools, and timing analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Internship or co-op experience in hardware engineering
  • Experience with FPGA development boards and lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers)
  • Proficiency with industry tools, such as: Xilinx/AMD Vivado or Intel Quartus, ModelSim or Questa, MATLAB/Simulink
  • Knowledge or exposure to: Radar systems, digital signal processing, or FPGA-based signal processing pipelines, High-speed interfaces (e.g., PCIe, Ethernet, JESD204, DDR), Embedded processors, SoC architectures, or hardware/software integration, Programming in Python, C/C++, or scripting languages
  • Hands-on lab/debug experience and participation in robotics, semiconductor, or hardware design projects
  • Understanding of airborne or ruggedized hardware environments

The salary range for this role is 75,800 USD - 144,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance. This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
