Description:

The Business Analyst - AI serves as a senior analytics specialist who bridges advanced data analysis and strategic technology advisory functions for the organization. This position supports operations and conducts data analytics projects to provide information and insights to stakeholders for decision-making or solution development. Operating at the P04-Specialist level, the role focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and data-driven methodologies to improve organizational processes, decision-making, and operational efficiency, while recommending new technical initiatives that align with the Ministry’s goals and values.

Work is highly independent. The Business Analyst may assume a team lead role for the work group and serve as a specialist on complex technical and business matters. This position requires the ability to translate complex analytical findings into actionable recommendations for non-technical stakeholders and leadership


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Data Analytics & Engineering

  • Implements data standards and deploys automation tools to extract, synthesize, and validate data from different sources, transforming raw data into usable metrics and decision-ready insights.
  • Constructs data sets, monitors data quality, troubleshoots and resolves database issues to ensure data integrity across all analytical workflows.
  • Utilizes scripting and querying tools (Python, R, or SQL), data visualization and BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), statistical methods, and data modeling to produce reports, data files, and dashboards.
  • Analyzes datasets to generate insights, trends, and recommendations for leadership, translating complex findings into clear, accessible formats.
  • Develops and maintains dashboards, reports, and visualizations that communicate performance metrics and operational insights effectively.
  • Monitors performance of deployed data and AI solutions and recommend improvements based on analytical findings.

AI & Technology Initiative Development

  • Identify opportunities to apply AI, automation, and advanced analytics to improve business processes and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluates, recommends, and supports the selection and implementation of AI tools, platforms, and data infrastructure.
  • Participates in the design, testing, and deployment of AI-driven applications and analytical systems.
  • Recommends new technical initiatives to leadership based on data analysis, industry trends, and organizational needs.
  • Stays current with trends in AI, analytics, and business intelligence, applying emerging best practices to ministry operations.
  • Participates in cross-functional projects supporting digital transformation and data maturity.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Requirements

  • Gathers, analyzes, and documents business requirements for AI and data-driven initiatives, collaborating with stakeholders to understand their needs, objectives, and requirements.
  • Defines use cases, workflows, and success metrics for data and AI solutions in partnership with business owners.
  • Translates business requirements into functional and technical specifications for implementation by AI/ML or engineering teams.
  • Facilitates clear communication between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, serving as an effective translator across audiences.
  • Prepares and delivers executive- and board-level materials communicating technology and AI strategy, analytical findings, and initiative status.

Data Governance & Quality

  • Works with data teams to ensure data availability, quality, and relevance for AI models and analytical projects.
  • Ensures AI and data initiatives align with data governance, privacy, and ethical standards.
  • Establishes and documents data standards, business processes, system requirements, and analytical solution workflows.

Change Management & Enablement

  • Supports change management efforts related to AI adoption and data-driven decision-making across the organization.
  • Provides training and support to end-users on AI-enabled tools and analytical platforms.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.


Requirements:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Data Analytics, a quantitative field, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 7 or more years of progressively responsible experience as a Data Analyst, Business Analyst, or comparable role, consistent with P04-Specialist classification.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating data analytics projects with high independence and minimal supervision.
  • Experience working with AI/ML projects, data-driven initiatives, or advanced analytics in an organizational setting.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in scripting and querying tools: Python, R, or SQL required.
  • Strong experience with data visualization and BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent platforms.
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, statistical methods, and data warehousing concepts.
  • Familiarity with AI tools, platforms, and concepts including NLP, predictive analytics, and automation.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and project coordination tools (e.g., Asana, Jira).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and deliver actionable analytical insights.
  • Strong understanding of data analysis, reporting, and performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of AI concepts and their practical application in organizational environments.

  • Experience supporting technology in a nonprofit, ministry, or mission-driven organization preferred.
