Job description

thelab is looking for a freelance Senior Copywriter to join the team. The ideal applicant is a quick study, an innately curious copy nerd, a proactive sleeve-roller-upper, resilient when faced with change, and passionate about the work. Advertising/Marketing Agency experience is required.

Experience in the mattress/sleep industry, sleep wellness, and/or CPG strongly preferred. Bonus points for experience with highly technical product features and benefits.

Portfolio should demonstrate digital/social (including paid) and UGC-style content, as this role is responsible for creating consumer-facing content across digital, social, video, and other platforms.

About thelab

We are an agency of makers with deep expertise in solving creative, production, and technology challenges. Our focus is on making better work to help brands work better. We partner directly with clients to think big, build from scratch, and design for reality. From branding and design, to e-commerce builds, social media, or anything in between, thelab mixes inspiration and hard work to produce results that drive business.

The Role:

Creative work:

  1. You're the first person the CD turns to in a brainstorm or to lead copy for critical projects and new business pitches.
  2. When it comes to social media you are fluent and prolific--organic and paid, concept and execution.
  3. You're current with/ahead of cultural, creative, and industry trends.
  4. You can juggle multiple projects at once while maintaining attention to detail and the highest creative standards.
  5. You are comfortable and persuasive when presenting work to internal and client audiences.

Collaboration

  1. You strategize with internal team members to anticipate problems, analyze solutions, identify alternatives, and suggest recommendations.
  2. You collaborate with other departments, account management, strategy, and clients to ensure extraordinary work.
  3. You delegate and share tasks/responsibilities to improve project output.
  4. You lead by example, providing solutions, and giving/receiving constructive feedback with grace.
  5. As a senior creative, you take ownership of and responsibility for every project you touch.

Experience:

  • 5+ years in advertising copywriting (or equivalent quality of creative work)
  • Strong strategic and conceptual skills
  • Work spanning cross-channel ad campaigns, with depth in digital, social, and motion
  • Experience in the mattress/sleep industry, sleep wellness, and/or CPG is preferred. Bonus points for experience with highly technical product features and benefits.
  • Portfolios should demonstrate digital/social (including paid) and UGC-style content, as this role is responsible for creating consumer-facing content across digital, social, video, and other platforms.

The above job description isn't an all-inclusive list of duties and standards of the position. You've been in this industry a while, and you know that we all wear many hats, sometimes all at the same time-while juggling and spinning plates. In fact, it's probably one of the things you love most about your job.

The Details:

  • Hybrid position. Tuesday-Thursday at our office across from Madison Square Park. The collaboration and onboarding on these clients necessitates in person on those days.
  • Company laptop will be provided if needed.
  • Hourly Rate: $80-$95/hr. Anticipated 30-40 hours a week from week of June 27th until end of August (with possibility of extending!)
