Job description

You will be responsible for creating original (No AI), on-the-ground travel stories about Southcentral Alaska in support of our brand and platform.As one of the first writers on our team, you will be responsible for building the content library that a brand new travel platform launches on. LaunchPoint is a pre-launch social media platform built around travel, which means the product, the voice, and the library are all being shaped right now. In this role you will work directly with the founders, pitch and develop your own assignments, and help set the editorial tone of the platform from day one.ResponsibilitiesThe Travel Writer will have the following duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:Develop story ideas for Southcentral Alaska and work with the founders to build an approved topic list before each assignmentTravel to the locations covered and report each story firsthandWrite original articles on family-friendly and budget-friendly outdoor activities, hiking and trail guides, national parks and public lands, conservation events, wildlife viewing, seasonal happenings, and day tripsProduce service-focused stories that help readers plan a trip, including practical details such as access, cost, timing, difficulty, and seasonalityDeliver clean, accurate copy on agreed deadlinesRevise pieces as needed through our review and approval processSupply supporting photography where possibleContribute ideas on coverage gaps, seasonal timing, and topics worth pursuing as the platform growsQualificationsTravel writing experience, ideally with published clipsReal familiarity with Southcentral Alaska, including trails, parks, seasons, road conditions, and what is actually worth the driveThe ability and willingness to get out to these locations and report in personA clear, warm, useful writing voiceStrong time management and the ability to work independently with light structureYour own transportation and gearPhotography skills, familiarity with local conservation organizations, and experience writing for the web are all a plusJob Types: Part-time, Contract-FreelancePay: $100 per approved articleGrowth OpportunityThis starts as per-article freelance work and there is real room past it. We expect to need more travel writing as we grow, including additional assignments, expanded coverage areas, and ongoing columns. Once the platform launches we will need content moderators to review what gets posted and community moderators to help steward the community that forms around it. We would rather grow those roles from writers who already know us.
