JOB SUMMARY
The University of Connecticut, Information Technology Services (ITS), is seeking a highly technical and self-motivated Audio Visual Technician 2 to provide broad technology support for UConn Athletics. The successful candidate is an energetic AV and IT professional who is committed to delivering best-in-class services in fast-paced, high-visibility environments. Under limited supervision, this position supports the wide range of audio visual, computing, endpoint, application, and related technical systems used by UConn's intercollegiate athletics programs, athletic facilities, offices, team spaces, and event venues. The anticipated focus of the role is approximately 60% audio visual technology and 40% general computer and technical support, although priorities may shift based on Athletics schedules and operational needs. The position analyzes needs, troubleshoots issues, recommends solutions, and supports the installation, configuration, operation, and ongoing improvement of technologies used by coaches, student-athletes, Athletics staff, event personnel, and University partners.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides advanced technical support for the audio visual, computing, endpoint, application, peripheral, streaming, conferencing, presentation, display, control, and related technology systems used by UConn Athletics across athletic venues, team facilities, offices, meeting spaces, and event environments.
  • Uses standard and advanced diagnostic techniques to analyze, identify, and resolve complex issues involving AV hardware and software, computers, mobile devices, peripherals, applications, operating systems, network connectivity, signal flow, control systems, and system integrations.
  • Provides on-site and remote technology support for Athletics staff, coaches, student-athletes, athletic events, team activities, meetings, recruiting functions, presentations, and other time-sensitive operations, including rapid response to incidents that may affect day-to-day work, practices, competitions, broadcasts, or event readiness.
  • Collaborate with senior technical personnel, Athletics staff, vendors, and integrators in the installation, configuration, testing, deployment, upgrade, and reconfiguration of AV systems, computers, mobile devices, peripherals, applications, and other specialized Athletics technologies.
  • Reads and interprets system diagrams, schematics, technical manuals, signal-flow documentation, and construction or installation drawings.
  • Troubleshoots cabling and connectivity using appropriate hand tools, meters, cable testers, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Writes scripts or basic programs to assist with monitoring, managing, configuring, or supporting AV systems.
  • Develops procedures, techniques, or programs to analyze and improve the performance, reliability, and efficiency of AV hardware and software systems; documents system changes and modifications.
  • Installs, configures, deploys, upgrades, and maintains software, firmware, computers, mobile devices, AV hardware, peripheral devices, and supporting components used throughout Athletics environments.
  • Works with UConn Athletics, vendors, management, technical staff, coaches, operations personnel, and other functional stakeholders to develop, enhance, and support AV, computing, and specialized Athletics systems and services.
  • Works across ITS, UConn Athletics, and external departments to resolve system-integration issues involving AV, networking, endpoint computing, identity and access, information security, applications, broadcast, streaming, and related services.
  • Carries out progressively larger technical assignments with minimal assistance and prepares clear summaries of technical project work, findings, and recommendations.
  • Responds to inquiries from Athletics staff, coaches, student-athletes, event personnel, University departments, and other stakeholders; interprets user needs; and communicates problem status, resolution, and follow-up actions.
  • Develops plans and processes that improve service availability, continuity, supportability, event readiness, endpoint reliability, and operational resilience for Athletics technology systems.
  • Contributes to technical projects as part of cross-functional teams and may coordinate defined portions of AV installations, computer deployments, application rollouts, venue upgrades, event-technology deployments, or service improvements.
  • Provides technical training, guidance, and documentation for AV systems, computers, mobile devices, applications, and related technologies to Athletics users, student employees, event staff, support personnel, and other technical staff.
  • May supervise, train, schedule, or provide work direction to student employees or support staff.
  • Uses the University's central ticketing and documentation systems to record, track, communicate, and resolve incidents, requests, changes, and problems.
  • Maintains awareness of Athletics schedules, venue requirements, team workflows, and operational priorities and coordinates preventive maintenance, system checks, software or device updates, and change activities to minimize disruption to daily operations, practices, competitions, and events.
  • Supports shared responsibility for the operational readiness of AV, computing, and other technical systems used by Athletics and escalate risks or outages to appropriate ITS, Athletics, vendor, or venue personnel.
  • Supports the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of university information as part of the overall University Information Security Program.
  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Associate's degree and six years of related experience; OR bachelor's degree and four years of related experience; OR eight years of related experience.
  2. Demonstrated experience supporting and troubleshooting a broad range of technologies, including professional audio-visual systems and computer hardware, operating systems, applications, peripherals, or mobile devices.
  3. Experience supporting video, streaming, conferencing, presentation, display, control systems, network-connected AV equipment, and end-user computing technologies in operational or event-driven environments.
  4. Experience supporting Windows or macOS computers, common productivity applications, peripherals, mobile devices, and client-side network connectivity.
  5. Demonstrated ability to interpret end-user needs and provide effective technical support to users with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  6. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret diagrams, schematics, signal-flow drawings, and technical manuals.
  7. Experience troubleshooting AV cabling and connectivity using hand tools, cable testers, meters, or comparable diagnostic equipment.
  8. Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex AV, computer, application, and connectivity problems, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions with limited supervision.
  9. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information, training, and guidance clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  10. Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, accurate technical documentation and project summaries.
  11. Demonstrated planning, organization, critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  12. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships and collaborate with individuals of diverse cultural, social, and educational backgrounds.
  13. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and appropriate handling of information.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Experience providing combined AV and general technical support in collegiate or professional athletics, live events, higher education, enterprise IT, or another similarly complex and time-sensitive environment.
  2. Experience with enterprise AV control, audio DSP and Dante, video distribution, digital signage, live streaming, video conferencing, replay, presentation platforms, or other specialized sports technologies.
  3. Experience supporting Windows, macOS, iOS, mobile devices, printers, common productivity applications, and enterprise endpoint-management tools such as Microsoft Intune or Jamf.
  4. Experience with AV-over-IP, networked audio or video, and the networking concepts used to support both AV and endpoint technologies.
  5. Experience commissioning, testing, documenting, and supporting integrated systems, computers, and devices in athletic venues, team facilities, event spaces, classrooms, conference rooms, or comparable environments.
  6. Experience writing scripts or basic programs for system administration, monitoring, automation, deployment, or technical support.
  7. Experience coordinating with AV integrators, broadcast or production personnel, consultants, contractors, event operations teams, equipment manufacturers, and enterprise IT support teams.
  8. Experience using a service-management or ticketing platform such as Jira Service Management and an inventory or asset-management system.
  9. Demonstrated familiarity with athletic event operations, sports video and performance workflows, broadcast or production environments, recruiting presentations, venue technologies, or specialized systems used by coaches and student athletes.
  10. Industry certifications or manufacturer training related to AV systems, endpoint computing, control systems, networking, conferencing, lecture capture, or IT support.
