What is freelance acting?

Freelance acting refers to working as an independent actor who is not tied to a single theater company, studio, or agency. Freelance actors audition for various roles in film, television, theater, commercials, and other media on a project-by-project basis. They are responsible for finding their own work, managing their schedules, and negotiating contracts. This career path offers flexibility and variety, but also requires self-discipline, networking skills, and persistence to secure steady work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance actor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Actor, you need strong acting abilities, a solid understanding of character development, and often formal training or a degree in performing arts. Familiarity with audition platforms, self-taping equipment, and casting websites is essential for finding and securing roles. Exceptional adaptability, resilience, and networking skills help you stand out and build lasting professional relationships. These skills are vital for consistently landing roles, delivering compelling performances, and sustaining a successful freelance acting career.

What are some common challenges freelance actors face when managing multiple gigs and auditions?

Freelance actors often juggle a variety of auditions, rehearsals, and performances, which can make scheduling and time management challenging. Balancing multiple projects means carefully tracking commitments to avoid conflicts and maintaining reliable communication with casting directors and production teams. Additionally, freelancers need to proactively market themselves and network to secure ongoing work, as assignments may be inconsistent. Developing strong organizational skills and a flexible mindset is key to thriving in this dynamic career.

Summary

Sweet Fish is a strategy-led B2B video partner for companies that want video to drive real business results.

We're hiring a Freelance Producer who can sit between strategy and production and confidently answer:

If this is the strategy how do we actually turn it into great video?

This is a creative-operator seat with real ownership - you'll help guide a portfolio of clients through the production process, ensuring strong creative execution, smooth workflows, and owning the client experience from idea to delivery.

This is a high-growth role for someone in their career who wants to sharpen both their creative instincts and production leadership skills while working closely with large enterprise brands.

What You'll Do

You'll help execute production across a portfolio of B2B clients, ensuring strong creative output, smooth workflows, and a great client experience from idea to delivery.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Turning show strategy into episode plans, outlines, and creative direction

- Contributing ideas for Shorts, social formats, and episode packaging (hooks, segments, angles)

- Managing production timelines and deliverables across editors, designers, and production teams

- Coordinating the production process to ensure projects ship on time and at high quality

- Strong communication skills with both clients and creative teams

- Highly organized and comfortable managing multiple projects at once

- Strong creative instincts for what makes video content engaging

- Ability to translate strategy into clear production plans and deliverables

- 24 years of experience in video production, content marketing, or agency client services with a strong emphasis on client success.

This Role Is NOT For You If

- You want to specialize primarily as a videographer or editor

- You prefer purely execution roles with little client interaction

- You struggle to stay organized when managing multiple projects and timelines

- You're uncomfortable contributing creative ideas or shaping content
