Job description

Position Overview
The Institute of Technology and Academics (ITA) is seeking a dedicated and engaging Middle School Math Teacher to join our instructional team. The ideal candidate will create a structured, student-centered classroom environment that promotes strong mathematical thinking, academic growth, and confidence in problem-solving. This teacher will play an essential role in supporting student achievement and contributing to a collaborative school culture focused on continuous improvement.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction & Planning

  • Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned math instruction for middle school students (Grades 6–8).
  • Develop lesson plans that incorporate differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies to support conceptual understanding and procedural fluency.
  • Integrate technology and intervention tools (e.g., Freckle, STAR data, small-group instruction) to support student growth.
  • Maintain weekly lesson plans aligned with instructional expectations and pacing.

Assessment & Data Use

  • Administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress.
  • Analyze student data (including STAR assessment results and classroom performance) to adjust instruction.
  • Maintain accurate and timely grading in PowerSchool, including at least two graded assignments per subject each week.
  • Provide targeted interventions for students performing below grade level.

Classroom Environment

  • Establish and maintain a structured, respectful, and engaging classroom culture.
  • Set clear expectations for student behavior and academic responsibility.
  • Support students in developing problem-solving skills, perseverance, and confidence in mathematics.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and concerns.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school-wide academic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, instructional coaches, and administration to improve instructional practices.
  • Support school-wide goals related to attendance, academic performance, and student engagement.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Participate in professional development opportunities and staff meetings.
  • Implement feedback from classroom observations and coaching cycles.
  • Support school events such as open houses, enrollment activities, and family engagement nights.
  • Follow school policies outlined in the staff handbook and administrative expectations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Mathematics, or a related field (required)
  • Valid Wisconsin teaching license (or eligibility to obtain)
  • Experience teaching middle school mathematics preferred
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills
  • Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Commitment to student achievement and continuous professional growth

Preferred Qualities

  • Experience working in diverse learning environments
