Job description

Custom Picture Framing Associates

A Custom Picture Framer consults with clients, designs protective framing solutions, and handcrafts custom frames. They measure, cut, and assemble materials like wood, metal, glass, and matting. Ideal candidates possess strong retail sales skills, meticulous manual dexterity, and a keen eye for color theory and artistic composition

  1. Arrive punctually according to schedule
  2. Report to floor manager for tasks
  3. Measure and cut frame components, mat boards, glass, and backing materials using specialized precision tools (e.g., mat cutters, glass cutters, and joiners)
  4. Assemble frame corners securely and apply finishes such as paint or gilding
  5. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment, especially around sharp tools, glass fragments, and heat presses
  6. Maintain inventory of framing supplies, moldings, and hardware
  7. Operate point-of-sale systems to process orders and payments
  8. Advise clients on selecting the best matting, glazing (acrylic/glass), and molding options that complement their artwork 
  9. Create custom designs for diverse items, including fine art, photography, sports memorabilia, and shadow boxes
  10. Greet all incoming clients and direct them to sales counter
  11. Standing and lifting are part of the job
  12. Follow supervisor's direction to wrap projects and then call clients
  13. Training and supervision will be provided

Key Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in retail sales, carpentry, or crafting is highly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Strong mathematical aptitude for exact measuring and cutting. Basic computer skills are required for operating POS systems and digital order software.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent customer service and communication skills. Extreme attention to detail and patience for delicate, hands-on tasks.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand for long periods, frequently bend, lift, carry, and reach. Must have excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
