Creation Lab Technician, Health Nutrition & Care (HNC), Taste
Part-Time
Princeton, NJ
We are seeking a highly organized, detail oriented, and technically curious Flavor Compounder at our Princeton, NJ creative center to support flavor creation, application and laboratory operations in a fast-paced flavour development environment. This role is ideal for someone passionate about food science, flavor technology, sensory evaluation and precision laboratory work. The successful candidate will work closely with Flavourist and technologists to prepare formulations, maintain raw materials, support beverage and applications and ensure excellent laboratory practices. We are looking for someone with strong work ethic, reliability, accuracy and eagerness to learn.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Flavor Compounding & Sample Preparation
  • Accurately compound flavor formulas provided by flavorists
  • Prepare bench samples and prototypes for evaluation and customer submission
  • Scale formulations from mg/g bench to pilot quantities

2. Formula & Data Management
  • Maintain and update formulations in digital systems (e.g. MUSE & Canopy)
  • Ensure traceability of ingredients, lot numbers, and revisions
  • Support creation team with version control and documentation

3. Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure all samples meet SOP and quality standards before release
  • Identify and escalate technical or compounding issues
  • Follow good laboratory practices (GLP) and safety procedures

4. Raw Material & Lab Management
  • Handle and organize flavor raw materials and ingredients
  • Maintain inventory and storage conditions (e.g., temperature, stability)
  • Keep workbench and lab clean, organized, audit-ready

5. Collaboration with Flavorists
  • Work closely with flavorists during formulation development
  • Support iteration cycles and rapid prototyping
  • Assist with preparation for sensory panels and evaluations

6. Operational & Team Support
  • Manage multiple sample requests under tight timelines
  • Coordinate with internal teams (applications, QC, regulatory)
  • Support colleagues and maintain a strong team-oriented mindset

You Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in chemistry, food science, or related field
  • 1+ year of lab or technician experience (flavor/fragrance preferred)
  • Basic chemistry or food science knowledge
  • Experience in laboratory compounding and weighing precision
  • Familiarity with SOPs, documentation, and quality processes
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong ownership and accountability
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

The salary or hourly wage scale provided reflects the pay range dsm-firmenich expects to pay the successful candidate for the position. Individual pay offered will be based on the applicant's job-related skills, experience, relevant education, or training, and primary work location. Hourly: $27.50/hour.
