How much do foundry manufacturing jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 15, 2026, the average hourly pay for foundry manufacturing in the United States is $23.94, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $21.39 and $26.44 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is foundry manufacturing?

Foundry manufacturing is the industrial process of producing metal castings by pouring molten metal into molds. These molds are typically made from sand, metal, or ceramic materials and are shaped according to the desired final product. Foundries create a wide range of metal components used in industries such as automotive, aerospace, construction, and machinery. The process involves several steps, including pattern making, molding, melting, pouring, cooling, and finishing. Foundry manufacturing plays a crucial role in supplying parts that require complex shapes and high durability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in foundry manufacturing, and why are they important?

Success in Foundry Manufacturing requires a solid understanding of metallurgy, casting processes, and safety protocols, often supported by technical training or a relevant vocational qualification. Familiarity with foundry machinery, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, and quality control systems is typically expected. Attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and effective teamwork are standout soft skills for this role. These skills ensure safe operations, high-quality cast products, and efficient collaboration in a demanding industrial environment.

What is the difference between Foundry Manufacturing vs Metal Casting Technician?

AspectFoundry ManufacturingMetal Casting Technician
CredentialsTypically requires high school diploma or equivalent; certifications in foundry processes are a plusRequires similar certifications; often trained on specific casting techniques
Work EnvironmentIndoor foundries with heavy machinery and molten metalIndoor casting facilities, working with molds and metal pouring
Industry UsageUsed across automotive, aerospace, and industrial manufacturingPrimarily in metal fabrication and casting plants
Job FocusOverseeing production, operating equipment, quality controlPreparing molds, pouring metals, inspecting castings

Foundry Manufacturing and Metal Casting Technicians share similar environments and certifications, but Foundry Manufacturing roles often involve broader production oversight, while Metal Casting Technicians focus more on mold preparation and casting processes.

What are the common safety challenges faced in a foundry manufacturing role, and how are they addressed?

Foundry manufacturing professionals often encounter safety challenges such as exposure to high temperatures, molten metals, heavy machinery, and airborne particulates. To address these risks, companies implement strict safety protocols, provide personal protective equipment (PPE) like heat-resistant gloves and face shields, and conduct regular safety training sessions. Team members are trained to recognize hazards, follow lockout/tagout procedures, and maintain clean workspaces to minimize accidents. Adhering to these protocols is essential for maintaining a safe and productive environment in the foundry.
