SUMMARY
Work in a team environment to develop and improve existing processes for the manufacture of investment castings in the aerospace/IGT industry. Specifically, by developing cost effective, robust metal gating systems, and process parameters that ensure product can meet customer drawing and material specification requirements. Support manufacturing in a leadership/mentorship role in problem-solving activities and writing clear shop floor instructions. Work to qualify product and close improvement projects within established time limits.
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Develop effective metal gating system and investment casting parameters to produce and control the metallurgical and NDT integrity of product assuring it satisfies customer requirements using DOE's and other statistical tools.
  • Lead, mentor, or participate in problem solving teams as assigned; use and coach various problem-solving methodologies (PDCA, Six Sigma, A3, etc.) and statistical tools to determine countermeasures, root cause and corrective actions; participate in weekly reports on active problem-solving projects.
  • Effectively support manufacturing and quality through daily communication with operations on improvement opportunities, quality concerns, and troubleshooting.
  • Generate part work instructions for various investment casting specific operations and the translation of customer specifications to usable instructions for thermal treatment and casting rework processes.
  • Utilize CAD tools to develop robust metal gating systems and associated tooling.
  • Conduct effective customer and supplier communication dealing with metallurgical and other issues related to the product and process. Support customer needs with respect to overall product quality via direct verbal/written communication and the generation of technical reports.
  • Participate in milestone development on new projects / programs and provide regular status updates. Manage projects as needed to qualify parts within original committed time frames.
  • Interpret and communicate customer specifications and qualification requirements to internal and external testing facilities.
  • Develop and maintain overall operational sequences for part manufacture in conjunction with Operational, Dimensional Engineering, Quality, and NDT disciplines.
  • Coordinate with Quality department to ensure processes adhere to AS9100 and ISO procedures.
  • Work with and train shop floor personnel regarding understanding work instructions, developing work techniques, process improvements, and reduction in executional variation.
  • Provide technical support to Sales during part quotations and the review of drawings, specifications, and purchase orders for assigned products. Provide customers with input relative to design and part specification criteria, lead times, and producibility improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: BS in Manufacturing, Materials, Ceramics, Metallurgical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.  Other engineering disciplines may be considered based on previous work experience.
  • Experience: 3+ years’ experience in Investment Casting Industry related to Aerospace and IGT products.
  • Without BS in Engineering: 5+ years of investment casting experience working in a technical role related to Aerospace and IGT products.
