Founding Manager information

What is a founding manager?

A Founding Manager is one of the earliest leaders or executives in a startup or new company. They are responsible for helping to establish the organization’s vision, culture, and operational foundation. Their duties typically include overseeing daily operations, strategic planning, hiring initial team members, and driving early growth. Founding Managers often work closely with other founders to make critical decisions and set the direction for the company's future. Their role tends to be very hands-on and multifaceted, especially during the company's formative stages.

What is the difference between Founding Manager vs Project Manager?

The Founding Manager typically leads new business initiatives, focusing on startup growth and strategic direction, often with entrepreneurial experience. In contrast, a Project Manager oversees specific projects within established organizations, ensuring timely delivery and resource management. While both roles require leadership and organizational skills, the Founding Manager operates in a more dynamic, uncertain environment, whereas the Project Manager works within structured project frameworks.

What are some unique challenges a founding manager might face when building an early-stage team?

As a Founding Manager, you’ll often be tasked with assembling a team from the ground up, which can be both exciting and challenging. One common hurdle is recruiting and retaining top talent with limited resources and minimal brand recognition. You’ll also need to wear multiple hats, balancing strategic planning with hands-on execution, while fostering a collaborative culture in a fast-paced, uncertain environment. Flexibility, resilience, and strong communication skills are crucial for navigating these challenges and setting the foundation for long-term success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a founding manager?

To thrive as a Founding Manager, you need strong leadership, strategic planning, and business development skills, often backed by entrepreneurial experience or a degree in business management. Familiarity with startup tools such as project management software (e.g., Asana, Trello), CRM platforms, and basic financial systems is highly beneficial. Exceptional communication, resilience, and adaptability are crucial soft skills for navigating uncertainty and motivating early teams. These qualities enable a Founding Manager to drive growth, build a cohesive team, and successfully launch and scale new ventures.

Open and help lead a brand-new VIO Med Spa in Midlothian.
As the founding manager in Midlothian, you own the guest experience, build and coach the team, grow membership, and get the center ready to open and thrive.

About the Opportunity

VIO Med Spa has been named the number one Med Spa Franchise in Entrepreneur Magazine's Franchise 500 for three consecutive years. This is a brand-new build at 1058 Steam Ave, Midlothian, VA 23113, led by an established multi-unit local operator moving into wellness. We are hiring ahead of the opening, so you get a committed owner, real growth ahead, and the rare chance to build and run a center from day one.

Who Thrives Here

  • A hands-on leader who likes building a team and a service culture from scratch.
  • A sales-minded operator who is energized by membership growth, guest experience, and hitting goals.
  • An organized multitasker who is comfortable owning schedules, vendors, and the daily numbers.

What You Will Do

  • Launch readiness: help bring the center from build-out to opening, coordinating setup, vendors, hiring, and training so day one runs smoothly.
  • Membership growth: drive membership sign-ups and retention, the engine of a VIO center.
  • Guest experience: own a premium, consistent guest experience from the first call through rebooking.
  • Team building: recruit, onboard, schedule, and coach the front-of-house team.
  • Daily operations: run scheduling, inventory, and the tools that keep the center on track, plus local marketing and pre-sales during the ramp.
  • Partner with the clinical team on scheduling and patient flow (non-clinical).
  • Performance: track and grow the numbers that matter, revenue, membership, retention, and guest satisfaction.

Requirements

What We Need

  • Management experience in med spa, wellness, fitness, hospitality, retail, or another membership or service business.
  • A track record growing membership, revenue, or guest retention.
  • Strong people leadership: hiring, coaching, and building a team, ideally from the ground up.
  • Comfort owning local marketing and pre-sales for a new location.
  • Full-time, on-site availability in Midlothian ahead of a December opening, including some evenings and weekends around launch.

Nice to Have

  • Med spa or aesthetics experience.
  • Experience opening or launching a new location.
  • CRM and booking-system fluency, and a local network in the Richmond area.

Benefits

Schedule and Work Model

Full-time and on-site. Center hours are Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm and Saturday 9am to 3pm (subject to slight adjustment as opening nears); manager hours typically extend around opening and closing, with additional evenings and weekends around launch and peak periods. You start ahead of the opening to set up operations and build the team.

Compensation

$65,000 to $75,000 per year base, plus a performance bonus tied to the location's growth, with additional incentives for membership growth. Your total compensation grows as you build the membership base and the location ramps. We are glad to walk through the full structure on our first call.
