Senior Avionics Systems Integration Engineer

Avidyne

Melbourne, FL

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Life, Retirement, PTO

Re-posted 29 days ago

Job description

Most avionics engineering roles sit entirely inside the avionics box. This one doesn't. You'll work at the boundary where avionics meets airframe -- the place where great engineering intent succeeds or fails in the real world. You are equally comfortable reading a wiring diagram, writing an Interface Control Document, and standing next to an aircraft on the ramp diagnosing an installation anomaly. You understand that avionics certification is inseparable from aircraft-level integration, and you bring the engineering discipline to close that gap.

Avidyne's product lines are certified and fly in thousands of aircraft. Your job is to make sure they continue to integrate cleanly into an ever-wider range of platforms, configurations, and regulatory environments. Your work here is visible, consequential, and technical.

As a Senior Avionics Systems Integration Engineer, you'll own the integration of Avidyne avionics (e.g., IFD display systems, autopilots, ADS-B/TAS, and FMS/navigator products) into the broader aircraft system: power distribution, wiring harnesses, antennas, flight control interfaces, and airframe-level electrical architecture. Your documentation becomes the foundation for certification submissions, customer installations, and the technical record of the company.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Develop and maintain Installation Manuals, wiring diagrams, ICDs, and system installation drawings for Avidyne product lines.
  • Define aircraft-level integration requirements: power budgets, wiring harness specs, antenna placement and coaxial routing, connector pinouts, and data bus interfaces (ARINC 429, RS-232, CAN, Ethernet).
  • Generate substantiation data and wiring compliance documentation for STC and field approval processes; coordinate directly with DERs and ACOs.
  • Work across avionics, airframe, and propulsion system boundaries -- you do not stop at the connector.
  • Evaluate installation configurations for FAR Part 23/25 and AC 43.13 compliance; analyze ELA data and advise on circuit protection, bus architecture, and power quality.
  • Participate in flight test activities to validate integrated system performance -- data capture, anomaly documentation, and corrective action follow-through.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers on the team.
  • Partner with hardware, firmware, and software teams to ensure what we design is installable and certifiable in the field and contribute to the documentation that makes that knowledge stick.
WHY AVIDYNE

We make avionics for pilots who care about what's in their panel. Our tagline is Simply Flying -- and that's not marketing language, it's the engineering philosophy behind everything we build. Our products fly in real airplanes, used by real pilots.

We have our own fleet, including a fully equipped SR22, so we can see exactly what we build in action. You'll have meaningful scope here, work alongside people who know this industry deeply, and see your work show up in aircraft flown by pilots we know by name.

We offer competitive compensation and standard health, welfare, and retirement benefits.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Must-Haves

  • 5+ years of experience in avionics installation, systems integration, aircraft electrical systems, or a directly related role -- or a master's degree plus 3 years or similar experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, generate, and troubleshoot from aircraft wiring diagrams, schematics, and installation drawings.
  • Hands-on experience working on or around aircraft during installation, inspection, or testing activities.
  • Familiarity with FAA certification frameworks: STC, TSO, FAR Part 23/25, and AC 43.13.
  • Working knowledge of avionics data buses: ARINC 429, RS-232, CAN, and Ethernet.
  • Technical writing skills sufficient to produce installation documentation that DERs and ACOs can approve.
  • Ability to work across engineering, field service, and customer teams and communicate clearly and effectively with all of them.

Strongly Preferred

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanic certificate -- we want engineers who have held a wrench and understand what it actually takes to install what they design.
  • Experience with Avidyne product lines or comparable GA avionics platforms (Garmin, Honeywell, or similar) in an OEM, MRO, or avionics shop environment.
  • Experience supporting STC or field approval processes with direct DER and ACO coordination.
  • Private Pilot Certificate or meaningful flight experience that gives you a user's perspective that improves everything you design.
  • Experience with RTCA DO-160G environmental qualification testing.

PAY & BENEFITS

At Avidyne, we are committed to creating customized compensation packages that reflect each individual's unique skill set, experience level, and areas of expertise, with base pay ranges discussed during the interview process.

You'll also receive benefits including:

Comprehensive medical and dental coverage, plus short-term, long-term, and life insurance starting your first day of employment

401(k) matching up to 3%

Unmetered PTO and 10 paid holidays a year

Reimbursement for certain career-related educational expenses, including tuition and private pilot license assistance - ask your recruiter about our flight club benefits

Note: Benefits, compensation, bonuses, and learning programs are dependent on role type, job level, and eligibility, with specific terms.
