Site and Foundation Superintendent
Position Overview
We are building a ground up luxury condominium project and are looking for a site super to join our team to work on this first and then move on to one of our other projects in Westchester County or southern CT. The Site and Foundation Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all site and foundation activities to ensure safe, compliant, high-quality, and on schedule execution. This role oversees excavation and trenching, shoring/underpinning, piling operations, and all site work while interpreting geotechnical reports and managing permits and environmental requirements. The Superintendent will lead subcontractors and field crews, maintain QA/QC and safety standards, manage costs and change orders, and communicate progress to project management and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise foundation construction activities, including footings, grade beams, and pile foundations.
  • Oversee excavation, trenching, and earthwork operations ensuring proper shoring, sloping, and protection measures are in place.
  • Implement and manage shoring, underpinning, temporary works and cofferdam construction to protect adjacent structures and open excavations.
  • Read and interpret geotechnical reports and construction drawings to inform means and methods and coordinate required design clarifications with engineers.
  • Direct piling operations and coordinate piling rigs, including setup, sequencing, inspection, and quality verification.
  • Manage permit compliance and environmental controls, including erosion & sediment control (BMPs), SWPPP implementation, and coordination with regulatory authorities.
  • Supervise site utilities installation, dewatering systems, drainage and stormwater management, and associated testing/inspections.
  • Control concrete operations: placement, forming, reinforcing steel (rebar) installation, finishing, curing, and cylinder/testing oversight.
  • Administer QA/QC programs, perform or coordinate compaction testing (Proctor, inplace density), concrete slump and cylinders, and document inspection results.
  • Create and maintain daily reports, site diaries, safety inspections, and asbuilt records; respond to RFIs and prepare/track change orders.
  • Develop and maintain shortterm lookahead schedules and coordinate with CPM/MS Project scheduling; manage subcontractor sequencing and performance.
  • Oversee site logistics, traffic management, material deliveries, laydown areas, and temporary facilities to optimize productivity and safety.
  • Enforce safety compliance (OSHA standards), conduct toolbox talks, and ensure subcontractors follow safety plans and site rules.
  • Manage cost control activities on site, support budget tracking, and identify efficiency or mitigation opportunities to reduce overruns.

Qualifications

  • Required: 7+ years of experience as a superintendent or senior field lead on heavy civil or building projects with primary responsibility for foundations and site work.
  • Required: Demonstrated expertise in foundation construction, excavation & trenching, and shoring/underpinning.
  • Required: Proven ability to read and interpret geotechnical reports and translate recommendations into field execution.
  • Required: Experience managing piling operations and coordinating piling rigs on site.
  • Required: Strong knowledge of permit processes and environmental compliance requirements, including erosion and sediment control and stormwater management.
  • Required: Handson experience managing site work including dewatering, grading & earthworks, and underground utilities.
  • Required: Strong leadership, communication, and subcontractor management skills with the ability to enforce QA/QC and safety programs.
  • Required: Familiarity with construction documentation: RFIs, change orders, daily reports, and inspection documentation.
  • Education: Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, or equivalent trade experience preferred.
  • Certifications: OSHA 30-hour preferred; first aid/CPR, and other site safety certifications a plus.
  • Preferred (nicetohave): Experience with reinforcing steel (rebar) installation, formwork & shoring, and concrete placement techniques.
  • Preferred: Experience with multiple pile foundation types (driven, bored, augercast, micropiles) and pile driving operations.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of soil stabilization methods, dewatering systems, and temporary works/cofferdam construction.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with grading & earthworks, compaction testing (Proctor, inplace density), footings & grade beams.
  • Preferred: Competence in drainage & stormwater management, erosion & sediment control BMPs, and underground utilities installation.
  • Preferred: Experience with GPS machine control, surveying & layout, laser/optical leveling, and reading complex construction drawings.
  • Preferred: Proficiency in QA/QC processes, concrete testing (slump, cylinders), and material testing procedures.
  • Preferred: Experience with construction scheduling tools (CPM/MS Project), cost control, and RFI/change order management.
  • Preferred: Experience with site logistics, traffic management, and temporary works planning.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with AutoCAD/BIM and digital construction tools for layout, coordination, and asbuilt documentation.
