Job description

Job Title: Formulation TechnicianJob Description

The Formulation Technician prepares, tests, and optimizes chemical solutions and formulations in a laboratory environment. This role focuses on developing new and improved chemical products, ensuring they meet strict safety, quality, and regulatory standards, and supporting the transition from lab-scale experiments to larger-scale production. The position requires close collaboration with technical teams and careful documentation of all work.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare chemical solutions and formulations following standardized procedures and experimental protocols.
  • Conduct synthesis and blending of raw materials to develop new or improved chemical products.
  • Operate laboratory equipment such as mixers, reactors, pH meters, and viscometers to support formulation and testing activities.
  • Perform stability, purity, and potency testing on formulations to ensure product performance and reliability.
  • Record detailed experimental data, observations, and test results in lab notebooks and digital systems with high accuracy.
  • Assist in scaling formulations from laboratory development to pilot and full production, supporting process transfer and optimization.
  • Troubleshoot formulation issues, identify root causes, and adjust component ratios or processing conditions as needed.
  • Ensure all formulations comply with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements, including cGMP and OSHA guidelines.
  • Collaborate closely with chemists, engineers, and quality control teams to support product development and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment, including proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
Essential Skills
  • 1–3 years of experience in chemical formulation or synthesis.
  • Strong understanding of chemical interactions, solubility, and stability.
  • Ability to prepare and test chemical formulations using laboratory equipment such as mixers, reactors, pH meters, and viscometers.
  • Familiarity with analytical techniques such as HPLC and spectroscopy.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards including GMP, GLP, and safe handling of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Excellent documentation skills with the ability to record detailed and accurate data in lab notebooks and digital systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve formulation and process issues.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Experience assisting with scale-up of formulations from laboratory to pilot or full production environments.
  • Comfort working with hazardous materials while following established safety protocols.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with chemists, engineers, and quality control professionals.
Work Environment

This role operates primarily in a laboratory setting that supports chemical formulation and testing activities. The environment involves regular use of laboratory equipment such as mixers, reactors, pH meters, and viscometers, as well as analytical tools like HPLC and spectroscopy. Work is performed under established safety, quality, and regulatory standards, including GMP, GLP, OSHA guidelines, and SDS-based handling procedures. The lab is maintained in a clean, organized, and controlled condition, with strict protocols for managing hazardous materials. Team members collaborate closely with technical and quality groups and are expected to follow appropriate lab attire and personal protective equipment requirements suitable for a chemical laboratory.
