Position Overview
This position is responsible for operating a heavy diesel truck (Gross Vehicle Weight over 26,000 pounds) equipped with an auxiliary concrete mixer, consisting of a revolving drum to mix the concrete components during transport to construction sites. You will be responsible for maintaining the materials in a liquid state through agitation or turning of the drum, until delivery at its destination. Once on site, you will maneuver the truck appropriately to feed the concrete mixture to designated areas with a gravity fed chute on the back center of the truck.
Wage ranges from $30 to $35 an hour dependent on experience.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Maneuver truck into loading position for filling (hopper at plant) and unloading positions at customer job sites.
  • Operate mixer to produce concrete from sand, gravel, cement, and water. Adjust mixture (slump) as requested by customers at job sites.
  • Assemble chutes and operate levers to release concrete per customer request.
  • Clean truck after loading and after each delivery to prevent concrete from hardening in mixer and on truck surfaces.
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip truck inspections.
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or coolant and performing minor repairs.
  • Fill out delivery paperwork, collect payment from customers when required and keep records of daily activities.
  • Monitor truck and company equipment to ensure proper operation and professional appearance.
  • Spray truck surfaces with protective compounds to resist concrete adhesion and for specialized cleaning.
  • Operate equipment, such as truck mixer controls, CB radios, mobile phones, and global positioning systems (GPS) equipment to exchange necessary information with dispatch, supervisors, or other drivers.
  • Follow all applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Drive trucks to any weigh stations along routes before and after loading and in compliance with state regulations.
  • Assist with various plant operations, such as general carpentry, maintenance and mechanical work as needed.
  • Occasionally operate dump trucks and other plant equipment.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Education/Experience
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • 2 years of experience as a CDL Driver.
  • Experience in a building materials/construction industry preferred.

Work Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must have a valid CDL A or B, per DOT Regulations.
  • Must have a valid Medical Certificate per DOT Regulations.

  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and basic math skills required. Ability to read and interpret mixer truck gauges.

  • Lift and carry chutes weighing 52 pounds from hanger on side of truck to mixer discharge chute.
  • Climb truck ladder up to 9 feet to clean hopper. Balance on railing-enclosed platform, sometimes on one foot, while leaning over hopper to spray water to wash down.
  • Extended periods of sitting while driving to/from job sites with constant vibration and motion, typically less than 30 minutes but could be an hour or more.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
