Job description

Role: Business Development Representative
Location: San Francisco, California,

Our client, a fast-growing AI data startup, is hiring a Business Development Representative to be a foundational hire on the company's first-ever revenue team. The company is a YC-backed AI research lab that recently crossed $100M in revenue run rate, building post-training data for all five frontier AI labs.
You'll report directly to the Head of Revenue (a former founder/CEO) and help build the outbound sales motion from scratch — not just run a playbook. This is an ideal role for a curious, scrappy seller who can grasp technical AI concepts and craft highly tailored outreach to researchers and technical decision-makers at the world's leading AI labs.
What You'll Do
  • Research frontier AI lab researchers, understand what they're working on, and craft bespoke, technically credible cold outreach (email, LinkedIn, Twitter/X) that maps the company's data capabilities to their specific needs.
  • Run and iterate on outbound prospecting campaigns across multiple channels, generating net new meetings and qualified pipeline with highly technical buyers.
  • Partner directly with the founding team to define ICPs, refine messaging, and build the outbound playbook from the ground up.
  • Stay deeply current on AI research trends, reading papers and tracking developments to inform your outreach and conversations.
  • Represent the company at AI/ML industry conferences, meetups, and events to build relationships and open doors.
What You Bring
Required:
  • 1–3 years of experience in outbound BDR/SDR roles or early-stage startup sales
  • Outbound prospecting experience targeting technical buyers (research/R&D teams, engineers, data scientists)
  • Technical or quantitative academic background (CS, data science, linguistics, STEM, or finance) — signals ability to grasp AI/ML concepts
Preferred:
  • For recent grads: clear signal of excellence (professional athlete, founder, etc.)
  • Entrepreneurial signals: startup experience, Thiel Fellowship, founded a company, or dropped a traditional path to build something
