Job description

Job Summary:
The Newborn Hearing Technician of Children's Therapy Services department is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of patients served through the Erlanger Health System under the supervision of a department Audiologist. The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and appropriate hearing screening to infants in the NBN of Erlanger Medical Center and Women's East Pavilion. They must comply with the standards as set down by the Joint Committee on Newborn Hearing Screening regarding treatment procedures and professional ethics. They must comply with standards described in the departmental policies and procedures.
Education:
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred:
2 Years of College
Experience:
Required: One year experience working with infants less then 1 year of age
Preferred: Knowledge of hearing anatomy and physiology
Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Required: As per state licensing guidelines per profession. BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward.

The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide hearing screening of newborns. They must be able to provide a calm environment for the infant and sensitivity when handling the newborn. They must have excellent communication skills to convey to the parents test procedures, results, and follow-up plans. The employee must comply with state requirements for reporting test results. They must comply with the standards described in the departmental policies and procedures.
