Job description

Description:

The primary function of the Forestry Manager will be to provide leadership and management of the Ranchโ€™s

forestry assets as well as support Land Asset Management projects across the Parker Ranch portfolio. This

includes coordinating and implementing day-to-day operations of the forestry program, strategic planning and

project design for existing and future forestry projects, financial analysis and risk mitigation, and operational

support for Land & Asset Management Division as needed. This position will work closely with and report to the

VP Regional Planning and Long-Term Strategy, as well as supervise the forestry team and contractors. Forestry is a

strategic priority for the Ranch, and proper stewardship of the forestry assets both present and future is

important to the long-term sustainability of the land.


The Forestry Manager will also take ownership of all existing sustainable forest management plans. This includes

extensive on the ground operations such as fence installation and repair, road maintenance, and invasive plant

removal as well as in-office responsibilities such as research, analysis, and planning. Development of additional

management plans will also be sought to create consistent long-term management of forest assets across the

Ranch portfolio.


The Forestry Manager will have an eagerness to learn, an openness to new ideas, strong field experience,

analytical skills or an ability to engage in professional development in relevant areas, and a strategic mindset.

Requirements:

Qualification/Requirements:

ยท Bachelorโ€™s degree in biology, forest management, agriculture, Physical or Natural Sciences, or similar

technical field;

ยท 6-10+ years of experience in forest management in Hawaii including at least 4 years in a supervisory role

ยท Demonstrated ability to effectively manage field crews, contractors, and volunteers to achieve project goals

ยท Extensive expertise with GIS and other forestry inventory and mapping software.

ยท Demonstrated ability to write, update, and provide reports for multiple stakeholders and

funders.

ยท Ability to safely operate, maintain, and train staff on the use of off-road equipment such as ATVs, UTVโ€™s,

4x4 vehicles, trailers, chainsaws, and other large and small pieces of forest equipment.

ยท Ability to safely implement and train staff on herbicide treatment regimes in forests and agricultural lands

following all required safety protocols.

ยท Experience working in multiple segments of the forestry value chain, including, but not limited to, seedling

nurseries, reforestation, timber management, post planting silviculture, harvesting/logging, milling, etc.

ยท Hawaii driverโ€™s license and clean driving record (or ability to obtain on start of employment).

Commercial Drivers License preferred.

ยท Proficiency in database management to facilitate reporting requirements to a range of stakeholders.

ยท Demonstrated experience in wildfire mitigation, response, and current certifications is highly desired.

ยท Assist with security; report any suspicious and/or illegal activity on Ranch property.
