Forestry Planner information

What is a forestry planner?

A forestry planner is a professional who develops and manages plans for forest conservation, timber harvesting, and land use. They analyze environmental data, create management strategies, and often use GIS tools to ensure sustainable forest practices and compliance with regulations.

What jobs pay 10,000 a month without a degree?

Forestry planners typically do not earn $10,000 a month without a degree; high-paying roles in this field often require specialized education or experience. However, some trades like commercial pilots, real estate brokers, or sales managers can reach that income level through experience, certifications, and commissions. These roles often involve self-employment, entrepreneurship, or high commission structures, but generally require skills, licenses, or significant industry knowledge.

What is the difference between Forestry Planner vs Forest Technician?

Forestry Planners focus on developing forest management plans, analyzing data, and coordinating projects, often working in an office setting. Forest Technicians primarily assist with fieldwork, data collection, and supporting forestry operations. Both roles are essential in forest management but differ in responsibilities, credentials, and work environment.

What is the highest paid job in forestry?

The highest paid jobs in forestry are often senior roles such as Forest Managers, Forest Engineers, or Consulting Foresters, especially those with advanced degrees, extensive experience, and specialized skills. These positions typically involve overseeing large-scale operations, strategic planning, and environmental compliance, and can earn six-figure salaries. Certifications like Registered Professional Forester (RPF) can also enhance earning potential.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

Forestry planners typically do not earn $2000 a day; such high daily rates are usually associated with specialized consulting roles, executive positions, or highly experienced contractors in fields like project management, engineering, or finance. These roles often require advanced skills, certifications, and extensive experience. Most forestry-related jobs pay hourly or salaried wages below this level unless combined with consulting or project-based work with high fees.

Job description

Who you are: You love being outdoors, enjoying wildlife, and the forest in general. Your personal hobbies might include backpacking, fishing, hunting, or other outdoor activities. You as a person and a professional are eager, have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, aptitude to learn new skills, and like working as a team.

What the job is: This is a unique full-time position working in two different disciplines: Wildlife Biology and Forestry Operations. From February to August, you will work with the wildlife team. When working in wildlife, your focus is conducting field surveys for raptors such as bald eagles, osprey, peregrine falcons, and spotted owls. This is required by the California Forest Practice Rules for timber harvest planning and operations. We do demographic studies that are required by Green Diamond's Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP). We do nighttime surveys for spotted owls.

From September to January, you will switch gears and work with the Forest Operations team. For this team you will be conducting road assessment and maintenance monitoring in conjunction with the Aquatic Habitat Conservation Plan (AHCP) and programmatic road permits. You will assist with data collection, data entry, and preparation on projects in each discipline.

For this role you should have a bachelor's degree in wildlife, forest management, natural resources or closely related fields of study in either or both disciplines or the equivalent work experience. This position works primarily in the field using four-wheel drive vehicles and hiking to get the work done. You should be effective at using GPS, maps, and situational awareness to navigate challenging terrain and weather conditions. Safety is always the number one priority for our employees.

Work schedule: A typical day is working 8 to 10 hours depending on where the work is located on the property. The crew meets to discuss the plans on a regular basis in each group. Although you always have co-workers nearby, some tasks in both groups require working alone and taking responsibility for your own safety.

Where you'll work: You will work on nearly 400,0000 acres of Green Diamond's privately held forest property, located in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties along the Northern California coast. Our offices are nestled in the redwood forest near the Pacific Ocean.

Compensation:

Hourly wage range with progression levels: $23.00 to $30.20. The pay range listed is just one part of Green Diamond's total compensation package. Other rewards include eligibility to receive an annual company-wide financial bonus and the opportunity to receive a bonus based on your personal performance.

In addition, Green Diamond offers a generous benefit package to include medical/vision and dental, life and disability insurance, 401(k) plan with match and profit sharing. Paid time off includes 9 designated and up to 2 personal holidays, 10 vacation days, 10 sick days, 30 days parental leave, 3 days bereavement, an extra 2 days bereavement unpaid, jury duty, 1 volunteer day, and 5 days family care. Also provided is a company vehicle for business use. More information about benefits can be viewed on our website: www.greendiamond.com/people/career-opportunities

Who Green Diamond is:We grow and nurture forests, a renewable resource to build homes, schools, and household necessities, harnessing carbon every single day we operate. We're a family-owned company that is guided by our values of environmental stewardship and supporting our local communities. We do what's right, even when it is the harder path to follow. We focus on the health and safety of our people first - by taking care of all our resources, we plan to be here for another 130 years.
