Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking aย Mechanical Engineerย for ourย Mechanical Engineeringย Practice inย Philadelphia, PA.ย In this role, you will work as part of a teamย applying fundamental principles of mechanical engineering to solve difficult technical problems for our clients.ย You will be expected to grow in the key aspects of consulting, including continued development of technical expertise, the ability to synthesize arguments and positions from vast amounts of information, and effective spoken and written communications.

You will be responsible for
  • Managing and executing specific projects related to a variety of mechanical engineering applications
  • Performing technical evaluations and analysis in order to prepare written reports and presentations
  • Participating in field inspections and conducting hands-on failure analysis for litigation matters
  • Designing and implementing custom experimental methods to address unique problems related to mechanical performance of products across a variety of industries
  • Communicating effectively with other engineers, managers, clients and administrative professionals
  • Marketing the Mechanical Engineering Practice's technical capabilities to clients and the scientific community
  • Participating in professional development activities to conduct and publish research, present findings at meetings and conferences, and obtain certifications and credentials
You will have the following skills and qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering or a Masters in Mechanical Engineering + 3 years of relevant consulting experience after the completion of the Masters degree. Please note that recent Masters level graduates do not meet this requirement.
  • Strong written communications and ability in distilling complex technical information
  • Understanding and familiarity with industrial equipment, machinery, construction sites, and tools. Experience in construction environments is desirable but not required
  • Background in experimental mechanical testing
  • Experience with forensic consulting and root cause analysis is desirable but not required
  • A self-starter with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple competing projects and priorities
  • Willing to travel, often on short notice, and sometimes for extended periods of time
  • Ability and desire to become a Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required

Compensation

Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Associate and Senior Associate level, total compensation includes base salary, bi-weekly bonuses for high-intensity efforts, annual bonus and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.

The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities which will be assessed during the interview process.
