Graduate Assistants will receive $10,000 for a 10-month appointment (divided and paid bi-weekly) and a scholarship of $6,000 ($3,000 each semester). Registration to the state and national NIRSA conferences will be paid. Summer employment is available. Health and optional insurance benefits may be available.

Nature & Purpose of Position
Job Summary:
The Graduate Assistant for Intramural Sports and Club Sports is responsible for assisting with the organization and administration of a comprehensive Intramural Sports and Club Sports program.
Supervision:This position reports to the Assistant Director of Intramural Sports and the Assistant Director of Club Sports. This position helps supervise the day-to-day operations of the assigned program areas and provides day-to-day direction, guidance and supervision to the students assigned to support the recreational sports programs in the assigned program areas.
Primary Duties:
May include but are not limited to the following:
Assist in guiding the Campus Recreation Department in a manner that is consistent with the goals of the department, Division of Student Affairs, and the mission of Sam Houston State University; recruit, train, supervise and evaluate student staff; supervise Intramural events and Club Sport events during the evening and on weekends; assist with marketing and promoting the Intramural Sports Program and Club Sports Program; evaluate and recommend changes for Intramural Sports activities and staff and Club Sports activities and staff as needed; develop and conduct officials' training clinics; create leagues and schedules for Intramural events and participants; field maintenance upkeep including, but not limited to, grooming artificial turf fields, painting fields, cleaning facilities, and preventative maintenance; assist with payroll processes for student staff; assist with purchasing, inventory, and maintenance of equipment; assist with scheduling and reserving fields facilities for intramural sports and club sports; directly oversee 3-5 Club Sport Teams; oversee the Club Sports Council; collect and track relevant information for clubs such as rosters, participation numbers, and results; provide aid to clubs in the development of philanthropy and fundraising opportunities; assist with policy development for Intramural Sports and Club Sports; other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Sport Management, or related field. Candidates must have knowledge/experience in recreational sports or sports management, strong human relations skills, and acceptance into SHSU graduate school. CPR/First Aid Certification preferred. Must maintain a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester to hold eligibility.
