Position Responsibilities
Position Summary
The Animal, Veterinary and Food Sciences department is seeking to hire an Assistant Professor for a tenure-track position. The successful candidate will lead a research program (45%) in applied and basic meat science, supported by extramural and industry funding, addressing emerging issues through innovative scholarship. Teaching responsibilities (50%) include undergraduate and graduate courses in meat and food science, with emphasis on live animal and carcass evaluation and additional courses as needed. The candidate will also mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and undergraduate researchers (5%). This appointment may begin earlier than the Fall 2026 semester and/or be eligible for a summer contract for Summer 2026, to be negotiated with the Dean and Department Chair at the time of hire.

Qualifications
Minimum Education/Degree Required Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire. Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Food Science, Meat Science, Animal Science or related ot the domain of this position.
  • Experience in meat quality research
  • Record of research and publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • History of securing extramural, industry, or competitive research funding
  • Documented teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience and knowledge in the meat industry
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a research team
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor graduate students and post-doctoral associates
  • Demonstrated ability in obtaining extramural grants
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Ability to drive vehicles and must have a valid driver's license
  • Ability and willingness to lift, carry and/or otherwise move up to 50 lbs
