Job description

Position Summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Med - Pulmonary/Allergy/Critical Care, is in search of a dedicated Researcher Assistant to join their team.

General Responsibilities

As a Researcher Assistant, you will contribute to the daily operations of research projects under the close supervision of experienced researchers. This role involves performing standard research tasks, including sample processing, basic data analysis, and maintaining accurate records. Your support will be crucial in helping senior team members execute complex protocols and ensuring the smooth functioning of the lab. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Rat handling including provision of special food and diet.

  2. Rat breeding and weaning management.

  3. Provision of special food and diet.

  4. Preparation of special food and diet.

  5. Maintenance of databases and laboratory books.

  6. Basic animal procedures, including tissue collection, blood collection, and thoracotomy.

  7. Coordinating cage transfers to other labs.

  8. Assisting other lab members with experiments.

  9. Coordinating with veterinary technicians to provide care.

  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Hourly Range:   $ 16.50- $ 20.00

Qualifications

Associate's degree in a related field OR High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

  • Prior handling of rats or other rodents.

  • Some prior research experience.
