Job description

Overview

We're looking for a practical, hands-on Machine Operator who are looking for a short term contract. 

Responsibilities

The Role

You'll be setting up and running a mix of semi-automatic and manual machines in a machine shop environment. This includes specialist work like lapping, polishing, and tool sharpening.

It's not just about running equipment, you'll get involved in setups, inspections, and troubleshooting when things aren't quite right.

What you'll do

    • Set up and run a range of machines including lapping, polishing, and tool grinding
    • Use cutting tools such as diamond grinding wheels
    • Read and interpret blueprints and work instructions
    • Work to tight tolerances (down to four decimal places)
    • Carry out first-piece inspections to make sure work meets spec
    • Spot and troubleshoot mechanical issues on machines
    • Keep your work area clean and organized
    • Follow all safety procedures (non-negotiable)
    • Pitch in with other tasks as needed
Qualifications

What you'll bring

  • High school diploma (or equivalent)
  • Experience with machining equipment, tools, and gauges
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and tolerances
  • Basic math skills (algebra and geometry, nothing too exotic)
  • Confidence setting up and operating machines, not just running them
  • A detail-focused mindset-especially when working to tight tolerances
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • A willingness to learn new machines and processes

What you'll get

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday start time 5:30 AM or 7:00 AM, 8 1/2 hour shift with a 30 minute unpaid lunch.
