What are foliage artists and what do they do?

Foliage artists are specialized 3D artists in the gaming, film, or animation industries who focus on creating realistic or stylized representations of plants, trees, grass, and other vegetation. Their work involves modeling, texturing, and placing digital foliage in virtual environments to enhance the natural look and feel of a scene. Their attention to detail helps bring virtual worlds to life and can significantly impact the atmosphere and immersion of a game or movie.

To thrive as a Foliage Artist, you need expertise in 3D modeling, texturing, and a strong understanding of botany or plant structure, often supported by a degree in game art, visual effects, or a related field. Proficiency with industry-standard tools such as Autodesk Maya, Blender, ZBrush, and game engines like Unreal Engine or Unity is typically required.
