With over 50 office locations worldwide, FM provides specialized property insurance and engineering loss prevention advice to over one third of the FORTUNE 1000 companies, as well as leading international corporations.

At FM you have the power to influence outcomes and make a difference in the future of your clients. When you join our team at FM, you can leverage your engineering background to help clients mitigate potential disaster such as fires, explosions, earthquakes, floods, and many others. FM’s 1,900 Consultant Engineers, with diverse backgrounds in engineering and fire protection disciplines, provide clients with research-based consulting and practical solutions to mitigate risk.

What makes FM unique is the culture of camaraderie with colleagues, the trusted relationships developed with clients, the unbeatable variety in the work, the breadth of engineering disciplines and expertise learned on the job, and the excitement of being part of a successful organization. We believe in a supportive work/life environment and encourage our employees to participate in our total rewards benefit program, including a pension program.

Responsibilities:

A new Consultant Engineer at FM will learn to engineer risk mitigation solutions from experienced mentors and a community-based work culture for the first 12-18 months. Initially, assignments will be of limited scope and complexity giving you the opportunity to learn.  You will gradually begin assessing hazards at larger, more complex sites. Over time, you will build relationships with clients and become a trusted resource, with a depth of expertise in the loss prevention field. You will work with minimal supervision and must be capable of working independently.

Job responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct engineering evaluations which include, but are not limited to, site fire protection water supplies, sprinkler protection, combustible dust hazards, chemical storage, and equipment breakdown potential.

  • Ensure that FM Engineering Standards are followed and, as necessary, communicate the appropriate recommendations and/or engineering solutions to clients.

  • Deliver a written report following each client site visit, following all FM guidelines and training provided, to ensure procedural and technical accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery.

  • Work from a home office while effectively managing responsibilities and deadlines, and collaborating with others remotely.

  • Travel is required to clients' facilities for site visits.  All client site visits will be within driving distance from your home, and a company car is provided.  Additional travel will include attending classes at FM’s Training Center (near Boston Massachusetts), and travel to the FM Cleveland office for events, networking, and additional training.  Overnight travel should be expected approximately 30% of the time.

FM Cleveland Operations is currently seeking Consultant Engineers with preferred geographic location in Columbus Ohio

  • Efficient time management ability with minimal supervision

  • Ability to stay focused from a home office environment

  • Solid technical aptitude, including diverse knowledge of engineering principles

  • Authorization to work in the country you are applying to work in

  • Physical ability to lift 25 pounds, walk and stand comfortably during client site visits (which can last all day), able to climb ladders, balance, and deal with heights.

  • Proficiency in MS Office products
