What You'll Do

Dyno Nobel is searching for a professional from a background in Underground mining who is interested in long-term professional growth in the field of Blasting.

As an Underground Operator, you will support loading operations within Dyno Nobel standards. The successful candidate will have the responsibility of conducting loading operation operations in a safe and efficient manner 

Dyno Nobel Canada recognizes the Impacts and Benefits Agreements with the Innu Nation and the Nunatsiavut Government in which Innu and Inuit workers have first preference for employment at the Voiseys Bay Mine Site. It also recognizes a commitment to give qualified workers from Labrador priority for employment opportunities.

What You'll Do:

  • Interface closely with the operations team to ensure safety and optimization of blasting operations.

  • Safely operate and maintain loading and delivery equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures, and in a manner that protects company assets and ensures their dependability.

  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment when not in proper working condition.

  • Assist in coordinating maintenance of the Emulsion Carriers. Maintenance to be performed by Vale or Vale's sub-contractors.

  • Provide product support for Vale and Vale contractors with respect to explosives use including bulk emulsion, packaged products and detonator and firing systems.

  • Contribute to the establishment of strong positive relations between the Company and the Site's prime client.

  • Repair and Maintain boiler systems that are involved in the manufacturing process.

  • Respond readily and in a manner that reinforces the reputation of the Company as a supplier with the highest standards of product quality and customer service.

  • Possess a good general knowledge of handling, storing and using explosives on surface (NRC regulations).

  • Have a full understanding of documentation required for completing all job tasks related to pumping emulsion explosives.

  • Accurately and fully complete all required documentation and reports within time requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable Company HSE Performance Standards, as well as applicable acts and regulations.

  • Guarantee that a safe working environment is maintained in compliance with all of Dyno Nobel's safety rules and regulations

  • Demonstrate initiative and embrace the Company's standards for safety and customer satisfaction. 

  • Participate in safety meetings, read safety documents (safety alerts, emergency plans, etc.) and report all accidents, incidents, and precautionary concerns.

  • Respect and support fellow employees.

  • This position will be Fly-in/ Fly-out based on a 2x2 rotation schedule. Possibility of working both day shift and night shift.

What We're Looking For:

  • Valid driver's license required.

  • Strong customer service, interpersonal skills and communication skills. 

  • Strong capabilities in multi-tasking, self-disciplined and ability to work unsupervised

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail.

  • Mechanical certification and boiler certification preferred

  • TDG certificate required (provided by Dyno Nobel)

  • Basic hydraulic and mechanical skills

  • Experience operating front end loader would be an asset.

  • Knowledge of boilers, compressor, and various electrical and mechanical items an asset

  • Knowledge of explosives and Ammonium Nitrate an asset.

  • Underground mining experience and loading and operation of bulk emulsion loaders.
