Job description

Job Description: Floor Supervisor

Reports to: Manager/Owner

Direct Reports: Sales Associates/Cashiers

Tentative Schedule: At least 1 day a week, the Floor Supervisor will open the store at 7:30am, close the store at 8pm, and work 1 weekend day (Saturday or Sunday)

Position Philosophy:

The duties of the Floor Supervisor position are to be performed by demonstrating and encouraging Owenhouse Ace Hardware's core values in order to achieve our vision of being the best place to work and the best place to shop. The Floor Supervisor's primary responsibility is to ensure the store is providing exceptional customer service at all times. Floor Supervisors are responsible for leading associates involved with activities in the front and back end of our stores which include the sales floor, check-out areas, service counter, receiving, and back stock areas. The Floor Supervisor will be expected to be a department head as well as having 1-2 additional significant responsibilities that will be assigned by the store manager. We are always on the lookout for people that like to serve others and want to be a part of a team.

Sales and Operations:

  • Drive store sales by ensuring that all customers are receiving the level of service that is expected from Owenhouse Ace Hardware. Our goal is, Amaze Every Customer Every time.
  • Performing and providing topics for daily huddles in person & on Trello/Dexter
  • Help forecast scheduling needs to meet customer demand
  • Ensuring people are in the appropriate places and doing the appropriate tasks so that a high level of customer service is provided throughout the day. In order to achieve this floor supervisors should be on the floor a majority of the day and routinely take walks around the entire floor to ensure we have sufficient staff in place to help customers.
  • Floor Supervisors will provide a high level of customer service being sure to use the SALES process and in addition will be expected to help associates in providing excellence in customer service.
  • Resolve customer complaints in a timely and satisfactory manner.
  • Performing and providing topics for daily huddles.
  • Maintain a department within the store. A floor supervisor's department should be a shining example of how we expect a department to be run at Owenhouse from stock levels, facing, and merchandising to back stock.
  • Floor Supervisors should be assigning tasks to Trello/Dexter and ensuring that staff members are completing tasks as assigned on Trello/Dexter.
  • Help to maintain accurate records by understanding and ensuring store procedures are followed.
  • Floor Supervisors ensure that all calls are answered. Sometimes no one answers a call or no one knows the answer to a question, a floor supervisor needs to answer when no one else does or can.
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures and be a safety role model.
  • Floor Supervisors will be expected to perform MOD responsibilities on a regular basis.
  • Walking the floor regularly looking for areas that need improvement, delegating those tasks and checking in on them at completion
  • Ensuring people are in the appropriate places and doing the appropriate tasks so that a high level of customer service is provided throughout the day. In order to achieve this, the Floor Supervisor should be on or near the floor a majority of the day and routinely take walks around the entire floor to ensure we have sufficient staff in place to help customers.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Participate in daily Huddle meetings and team chores as directed by management.
  • Participate in employees 1-2-1 process.
  • Attend necessary training and meetings.
  • Utilize Dexter for appropriate communications.
  • Manage all correspondence related to this position, including email communications.
  • Monitor reports pertinent to this position.
  • Maintain all files relevant to this position.
  • Assist in answering phones.
  • Assist customers and other employees as needed.
  • Assist with deliveries as needed.

Requirements:

  • Possess a vast product knowledge of hardware related products along with a willingness to learn
  • Skills/Knowledge: Solid leadership and team building skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in all situations
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks with a high attention to detail
  • Knowledge of retail computer systems, MS Word and Excel a plus.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the business

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to operate forklift equipment safely and effectively.
  • Must be in good physical condition and work wisely.
  • Unloading of freight is to be accomplished safely, carefully, and quickly with care not to injure stock or self.
  • Must be physically able to lift and handle a minimum of 50lbs.
  • Proper lifting procedures must be followed at all times
  • Ability to bend and twist, push and pull, stoop, and kneel.
  • Ability to ascend and descend a ladder.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to hear, understand and communicate orally and in writing to customers and staff.
