Job Description
Stantec Consulting Services Inc. seeks a driven Senior Coastal Engineer, Coastal Scientist, or Coastal Planner to join our growing Coastal Engineering practice. The candidate will be a leader and a mentor with a minimum of 10 years of coastal experience. Candidate must be located in the San Francisco Bay Area and will serve as the Practice's on-the-ground presence for coastal work in SF Bay. The Stantec Coastal Solutions group is a diverse and collaborative team who lead and support a wide variety of coastal work across the US and Canada. Team members are expected to be able to contribute to projects in the coastal environment through planning, restoration, adaption, and/or engineering and to be an expert or developing expert in at least one of the following areas:
  • Natural hazards and coastal flood risk management
  • Coastal hydrodynamics and morphology
  • Coastal vulnerability, and adaptation planning
  • Design and analysis of coastal structures, ports, harbors, and waterways
  • Coastal management, environmental restoration, and enhancement
  • Nature-based solutions to address coastal ecosystem restoration and sea-level rise adaptation and resilience.

Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership overseeing Stantec's on-going coastal work in the San Francisco Bay Area, and potentially throughout CA.
  • Project management, including the development and management of scopes, schedule and budgets for coastal oriented projects and tasks.
  • Participate and eventually lead proposal efforts for coastal engineering or adaptation projects
  • Contribute to Stantec's business developments efforts in coastal engineering, adaptation and planning in the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Establish and grow Stantec's connections to coastal clients by tracking business opportunities and developing relationships with clients
  • Work with and mentor junior staff.
  • Oversees staff involved in coastal engineering and planning work.
  • Develop coastal adaptation plans, engineering designs and modeling, and/or reviews the work of coastal staff
  • Communicate effectively and apply with a high level of understanding the principles and practices of coastal engineering, planning or adaptation.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master of Science degree in Civil, Coastal, Environmental Engineering, Planning, or related field with 10+ years of experience in one of the areas of expertise listed above. OR
  • Bachelor of f Science degree in Civil, Coastal, or Environmental Engineering, Planning, or related field with 15+ years of experience in one of the areas of expertise listed above.
  • Demonstrated high level of understanding the principles and practices of coastal engineering, planning or adaptation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to conduct effective client and agency presentations and produce written technical reports.
  • Experienced in client engagement, business development and have an established professional network in SF Bay
  • Strong understanding and experience in navigating the coastal regulatory and planning landscape in SF Bay

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current registration as Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in California.
  • Strong project management experience, with the ability to organize and rally a diverse team to execute a scope on schedule and on budget.
  • Have established relationships with potential clients and local public agencies
  • Track record of winning coastal engineering, adaptation or planning work in the SF Bay Area

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
