A Flood Restoration job involves assessing, cleaning, and repairing properties damaged by water due to flooding, leaks, or burst pipes. Professionals use specialized equipment to remove excess water, dry affected areas, prevent mold growth, and restore structures to their original condition. The goal is to minimize damage and ensure a safe and habitable environment for property owners.

What does a flood restoration technician do?

A typical day for a Flood Restoration technician involves assessing damage at residential or commercial sites, setting up extraction and drying equipment, monitoring progress, and performing necessary repairs or removals of damaged materials. Technicians often respond to emergency calls, working in varying conditions and sometimes outside of regular business hours, especially after major storms or flooding events. Collaboration with supervisors, colleagues, and clients is common, and clear documentation of all work performed is essential. This dynamic environment keeps the work varied and provides valuable hands-on experience in construction, problem-solving, and customer service.

What skills and qualifications are needed for flood restoration?

To excel in Flood Restoration, you need knowledge of water damage mitigation, structural drying techniques, and basic construction or repair skills, often gained through hands-on experience or specialized training. Familiarity with industry-standard equipment such as dehumidifiers, moisture meters, air movers, and certifications like IICRC Water Damage Restoration (WRT) are highly valued. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, customer service skills, and teamwork are critical soft skills in this field. These skills ensure effective assessment, restoration, and clear communication with clients during stressful situations, ensuring safety and high-quality results.
