Job description

Essential Functions:

  • Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and Principals.
  • Establish/maintain management systems in the Coating area to ensure manufacturing process stability, line yields, quality and throughput are at world class levels and continuously improving.
  • Ensure that a commitment to ‘Customer First’ is embedded within the culture of the department.
  • The incumbent is responsible for applying/ensuring application of appropriate problem-solving techniques (i.e. the eight-step problem solving model, 5-Why) on all significant manufacturing issues to ensure that production problems are resolved in the least amount of time, systems are established to eliminate reoccurrence of the production problems, and process improvement initiatives are implemented on a timely basis.
  • Develop talent within the team (Shift Leaders and Coating Technicians) to cultivate a culture of Technician ownership of the day-to-day operation and ensure effective execution of rounds, checklists and layered process audit systems.
  • Work with production personnel to assist in development and maintaining of training programs and qualifications testing techniques to ensure that all team members are properly trained and qualified to effectively perform their function.
  • Review daily/weekly records of process yields, manufacturing loss sources, quality and scheduling needs with the other production team members. The major areas of loss will be identified and in turn detailed plans for reducing this loss will be developed.
  • Maintain positive relations with the work force and actively utilize the team member involvement process in all manufacturing operations.
  • Responsible for auditing of:
    • Safety systems
    • Production processes
    • Productivity
    • Maintenance effectiveness
  • Evaluate, together with the coating team, future equipment upgrades and capital investment requirements.
  • Work with the maintenance and engineering department in the development of new methods, processes, and equipment necessary to reduce cost, improve operating efficiency, and meet present as well as future product design.
  • Support, champion, and mentor continuous learning system improvements.
  • Establish and maintain effective internal and external customer relationships

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (or equivalent technical experience)
  • Excellent interpersonal, coaching and communication skills
  • Ability to facilitate groups in an employee involvement environment
  • Basic computer skills – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SPC knowledge is desired

Qualifications Desired:

  • Chemical, Material Science, or Ceramic Engineering background
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in the glass industry
  • Practical experience in the Hot End of a float glass facility
  • 1 to 4 years of experience in CVD
  • SPC knowledge
