Overview

The role of the Flight Operations Manager is to oversee operations management, people management, and sensor platform resource allocation for helicopter aerial geospatial technologies workflows. The position will lead Flight Acquisition Managers, Project Coordinators, and Remote Sensing Technicians.  The position will proactively coordinate with Account Management, Estimation, Project Management, Production Leads, Survey, Maintenance and Flight Operations to prioritize efficient aerial data acquisition while maintaining a strong safety culture.

Responsibilities

Flight Operations (Approximately 25% of Time):

  • Establish and maintain standards and limitations to ensure safe and efficient department operations 
  • Assist with short and long-range plans that include departmental objectives
  • Maximize asset utilization and capabilities by coordinating with maintenance personnel and flight operations
  • Maintain operations and resource reporting with daily updates as required
  • Manage platform and sensor resources to report on measures of effectiveness and efficiency for ROI
  • Manage team and maintain adequate staffing relative to backlog  
  • Assist in preparing annual operating budgets that include operating expenses, facilities, supplies, outside services, personnel, training, capital expenses and reserves
  • Identify short- and long-term resource needs to successfully execute on project backlog
  • Remain up to date on advancements in sensor technology and aviation platforms
  • Support account management and estimation with technology approach, resource allocation and flight planning 
  • Support project management with project status and planning 

Program/Policy Development (Approximately 25% of Time):

  • Assist in developing and instituting department policies and procedures - including basic company policies, procedures and objectives - into departmental functions
  • Ensure compliance with department policies and procedures - including basic company policies, procedures and objectives
  • Assist in the development of and maintaining an operations policy manual to include flight, maintenance and pertinent company policies
  • Establish scheduling policies and procedures that provide effective control and management 

Personnel Managment (Approximately 25% of Time):

  • Establishing, with the cooperation and assistance of company personnel and human resources team, minimum employment qualifications, hiring procedures, salary structure, performance appraisal procedures, grade structure and dismissal procedures 
  • Manage human resources for direct team with oversight of head count, hiring process, and training compliance
  • Maintaining high morale through an awareness of company and department policies, employee development programs, and departmental goals and objectives 

Relationships - Internal & External (Approximately 15% of Time):

  • Advising management on the status and requirements for current and future aircraft and sensor solutions
  • Ensuring that high levels of customer service are provided to the company and its customers
  • Maintaining lists of aviation vendors that meet the highest level of aviation safety and NV5 standards
  • Establish and maintain partner and vendor relationships that meet NV5 standards 

Regulatory/Compliance (Approximately 10% of Time):

  • Maintaining records as required by the FARs, manufacturers, and company policies
  • Ensuring that department personnel are thoroughly familiar and comply with company policies, appropriate FARs, pertinent operating manuals, applicable standards and publications
  • Monitoring security procedures to protect the aircraft and company facilities 
Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • 5+ years progressive experience in aviation and/or remote sensing technology
  • 3+ years of management experience   

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors/Masters degree in Business 
  • Geospatial Certifications
  • Aviation Certifications

   Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to work fixed office hours in addition to being accessible during flight crew operating hours  
  • Travel may be up to 5%
