Position Overview

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Staff Flight Test Instrumentation Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Test & Evaluation organization. This role is located in Melbourne, FL.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the development of Flight Test Instrumentation process, procedures and modifications of both Electrical and Mechanical engineering drawings related to Instrumentation systems for ground and flight test activities.
  • Define Instrumentation system configurations and signal conditioning requirements common to Airborne Data Acquisition Hardware and Software such as sensor selection, installation methods, calibration and checkout requirements.
  • Perform a variety of duties, including engineering design tasks as assigned, participating in electrical design reviews, and procedure writing.
  • Design and maintain TTC Airborne Data Acquisition Systems, including an onboard Data Monitoring Station in conjunction with typical Data system components.

Basic Qualifications
  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline AND 12 years of related professional experience OR a Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 10 years of related professional experience, OR a STEM Ph.D. AND 8 years of related professional/military experience.
  • Your ability to transfer and maintain a Top Secret government clearance, and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.
  • Must have professional experience with one or more of the following: telemetry, RF, onboard recording systems, ground stations, or sub-systems.
  • Must have professional experience with specialized Instrumentation test equipment/sensors (e.g. Strain Gages, Accelerometers, Pressure Transducers).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to create detailed design specifications, product manuals, ICDs, and/or design handbooks.
  • Design and operational experience with TTC data systems.
  • Experience working in Navy Flight Test environments.
  • Familiarity with fundamental principles of Symvionics IADS software or working in a Mission Control Room.
  • Basic knowledge of data bus architecture MIL-STD-1553, IEE-1394, ARINC-429, RS232 and RS422.
Salary Range

Primary level salary range: $152,900.00 - $229,300.00. The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Additional Compensation and Benefits

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
