Job description

About ALSO.

We’re ALSO, an electric mobility company originally conceived as a part of Rivian. We’re a passionate team of builders, dreamers, doers and innovators, focused on creating entirely new (not to mention, innovative and delightful) vertically integrated, small EVs designed to meet the global mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Our mission is to inspire everyone to ride ALSO—replacing many local car, truck and SUV miles with ones on vehicles that are more affordable, more enjoyable and 10-50x more efficient.

ALSO is seeking an Engineering Technical Lead – Engineering Triage to build and run the triage function across our embedded firmware, mobile apps, cloud services, and connected vehicle platform. You'll define the processes, workflows, and tooling that let us investigate, prioritize, and resolve issues fast, working closely with Firmware, Mobile, Cloud, Systems, Product, Customer Support, Manufacturing, Operations, and Program Management to keep quality high and releases moving.

This role is highly cross-functional and hands-on. You should be comfortable solving system-level problems, moving fast in a startup environment, and driving initiatives from identification through implementation on your own. Strong technical range across embedded, mobile, and cloud systems, paired with sharp communication and execution skills, will be key to improving both engineering effectiveness and customer experience.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the Engineering Triage function, setting technical processes and best practices for managing issues across firmware, mobile apps, cloud services, and connected systems

  • Own intake, prioritization, investigation, and assignment of engineering issues from customer support, field operations, and product development

  • Drive cross-functional root cause analysis across firmware, mobile, cloud infrastructure, backend services, APIs, connectivity, and hardware/software interactions

  • Partner with Firmware, Mobile, Cloud, Systems Engineering, Product, Support, Quality, Manufacturing, and Operations to resolve customer-impacting issues on time

  • Lead periodic triage reviews, coordinating investigations, identifying dependencies, removing blockers, and driving issues to closure

  • Build and maintain dashboards and metrics for issue aging, defect trends, release quality, customer impact, and engineering throughput

  • Improve observability by working with software teams to enhance logging, diagnostics, telemetry, crash reporting, and remote debugging

  • Define severity classifications, prioritization frameworks, escalation paths, and SLOs for issue management

  • Work with Release Management to assess issue readiness and support go/no-go decisions for firmware, mobile, and cloud deployments

  • Build tooling and automation for issue tracking, log collection, diagnostics, and defect reporting, and mentor engineers on debugging and incident management

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field

  • 8+ years developing and/or validating embedded software, mobile applications, or cloud services, with experience in systems engineering, software quality, and engineering operations

  • Automotive experience a plus, including CAN protocol debugging tools (Vector, NI, etc.), DBCs, Power Management, Fault Management, DTCs, UDS, and telemetry data

  • Proven experience leading cross-functional investigations spanning embedded firmware, mobile apps, cloud platforms, and connected devices

  • Strong understanding of embedded and distributed architectures, MCU/ECU, RTOS and Linux-based systems, OTA firmware updates, hardware/software interfaces, and board-level debugging

  • Experience with connected product technologies such as Bluetooth, BLE, Wi-Fi, Cellular, GNSS, MQTT, and REST APIs

  • Working knowledge of cloud-native architectures, backend services, distributed systems, APIs, authentication, telemetry pipelines, and observability platforms

  • Experience with engineering lifecycle tools (Jira, Confluence, GitHub, GitLab, or similar) and hardware debugging tools (JTAG, I2C, SPI, serial consoles, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes)

  • Strong analytical and debugging skills, with the ability to interpret logs, traces, crash reports, telemetry, and diagnostics across software layers

  • Programming/scripting experience (C/C++, Python, or similar) for automating workflows, diagnostics, and reporting, plus experience with CI/CD and release management across firmware, mobile, and cloud

The salary for this position ranges from $170,000 - $210,000 per year, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.

Perks & Benefits

  • Robust health coverage — excellent health, dental and vision insurance covered up to 100% by ALSO with FSA & HSA options

  • One Medical membership and dedicated insurance advocates

  • Rich fertility and family building benefits with Progyny

  • Flexible time off

  • 401(k) match

Why ALSO.
