Job description

The Packaging Designer will create functional, innovative packaging solutions that meet customer needs. This role will focus primarily on designing corrugated and protective foam packaging, while maintaining a material-neutral approach. The Packaging Designer will also incorporate other materials as needed, such as outsourced plastic components, snap rivets, blister or thermoformed items, and chipboard. A key part of the role will be supporting testing processes and applying good manufacturing practices to ensure the designs are both creative and practical.
Responsibilities
  • Creates designs, drawings and prototype samples utilizing ArtiosCAD software and CAD/CAM cutting table
  • Operates CAPE software to provide ideal loading solutions and identify limitations
  • Uses drop tester, vibration table, and compression tester to validate designs and provide reports
  • Designs according to GMP and machinery limitations of internal plants, external outsource vendors, and suppliers
  • Acts as a supportive interface between sales, customer service and production
  • May engage with customers to collaborate on the best design solutions
  • Supports the pre-press team to set up manufacturable files for production
  • Initiates and/or participates in project management and process improvement meetings as necessary
  • Works with project managers and pre-press team to ensure a smoother workflow in designs
  • Possesses or develops competency in company's management system software - WebCenter
  • Possesses or develops general graphics knowledge as relating to structural packaging design
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of design areas
  • Performs other duties as assigned by department manager

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university with a concentration in Industrial Design, packaging, or engineering preferred.
    3-5 years of relevant experience required. 2+ years of corrugated design and packaging industry experience preferred.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft applications: Word, Excel is required; ArtiosCAD is a must; CAPE and Adobe Creative Cloud applications a plus
  • Ability to design intricate, unique, and manufacturable solutions

  • Neat in appearance, articulate and able to assist sales on calls with prospects and customers
