What is a Flexible SaaS Attorney?

A Flexible SaaS Attorney is a legal professional who specializes in software-as-a-service (SaaS) contracts and legal matters, often working in a flexible or remote capacity. They assist technology companies with drafting, negotiating, and reviewing SaaS agreements, privacy policies, and compliance documents. Their flexible role means they may work as outside counsel, on a contract basis, or provide on-demand legal services to multiple clients. This adaptability allows businesses to access specialized legal expertise as needed, without committing to a full-time, in-house counsel.

How does a Flexible SaaS Attorney typically collaborate with cross-functional teams within a tech company?

A Flexible SaaS Attorney frequently works alongside product, engineering, sales, and compliance teams to ensure legal considerations are integrated into every stage of the software lifecycle. This collaboration involves reviewing contracts, advising on data privacy issues, and helping shape policies that address both regulatory requirements and business goals. Attorneys in this role often participate in regular meetings, provide training, and act as a bridge between legal requirements and operational execution. Such close teamwork helps streamline product launches and contract negotiations, enhancing both compliance and business agility.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Flexible SaaS Attorney, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Flexible SaaS Attorney, a strong background in contract law, intellectual property, and technology law, typically with a Juris Doctor (JD) and bar admission, is essential. Familiarity with SaaS agreements, data privacy regulations like GDPR, and legal management software is often required. Excellent negotiation, analytical thinking, and communication skills help attorneys effectively advise clients and manage dynamic workloads. These abilities ensure legal compliance, risk mitigation, and the successful navigation of complex SaaS business environments.

What is the difference between Flexible Saas Attorney vs SaaS Contract Specialist?

AspectFlexible Saas Attorney

While both roles focus on SaaS legal matters, a Flexible Saas Attorney provides legal advice, drafts contracts, and handles compliance issues, often working independently or on a freelance basis. A SaaS Contract Specialist primarily manages and negotiates SaaS agreements within a company's legal or sales team. The attorney role requires legal credentials and offers broader legal expertise, whereas the contract specialist may not need a law degree but focuses on contract management. Both roles are common in tech industries, but the attorney role involves legal practice, while the specialist role emphasizes contract administration.

Job Overview

The Senior Counsel, Commercial Transactions serves as a senior legal advisor supporting Relativity's commercial contracting function and strategic business initiatives.
Primary Objective: Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a broad range of customer-facing and strategic commercial transactions, with a primary focus on SaaS, software licensing, strategic partnership and go to market arrangements, cloud services, AI-enabled offerings, data processing, and other commercial arrangements.
Secondary Objective: Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Product, Partner, Customer Success, Strategy, Security, Finance, Procurement, and other business stakeholders to enable growth, manage legal risk, develop scalable contracting processes, and support strategic initiatives.
Welcome to a different kind of legal team.
We don't slow business down - we help it move forward. This is a team of legal professionals who are as invested in outcomes as the business teams we support. We're looking for an attorney who thrives at the intersection of law and business - someone who picks up a pen to find a path forward using their legal expertise, not to put up a roadblock. You draft and negotiate with confidence, you're energized by complexity, and you bring solutions to the table before anyone has to ask. The ideal candidate moves fast without losing the thread, leads with strategy while staying in the weeds when it matters, and influences stakeholders well beyond the legal lane. You know how to turn ambiguity into clarity, surface issues early, and come ready with answers. You treat process improvement as a competitive advantage and approach every challenge with a positive, collaborative instinct. If you're a critical thinker with a genuine love for the craft of contract work, this is your team.
